Depends on coverage and need.

Really?? So if they need us because the coverage is bad how do we get out of jury duty? The few times I've been called they tell me to pound sand if it is a conflict with work stuff. The best way out is to tell them your wife works and you don't have childcare, but as far as work stuff goes, I don't think you can get out of it.

Easy way to get out of jury duty. Just show up on the first day and during the interviews with the prosecuting and defense attorney's just tell them that you're for the "death penalty" and nothing less.

"But sir, this case is going to trial for an overdue speeding ticket."

FIVE WORDS!!

DEATH PENALTY, AND NOTHING LESS!! :D:D

2. A pilot will immediately notify his Base Chief Pilot upon receipt of a summons or subpoena. A pilot who does not so notify his Base Chief Pilot will not be paid during his absence.
3. The Company may intervene with the appropriate authorities to seek release from or deferral of jury duty or appearance as a witness.

The above is from the contract. The company has the option to try and get you out of jury duty if they want. Sounds like they are choking ove the length of the summons. Usually they don't do much. From the above, it looks to me like the company needs to make any calls etc. to try and get you out of it. They may not be able to either, it is the gubmint we're talking about! Good Luck!:D

I guess I'm wondering why you would want to get out of jury duty. If you notify your CP of the dates and it touches a trip guess what..........you get paid for the trip or the reserve days. As I posted above, if the company does not want to do this, they can try to get you out of the jury duty. If this is the case, it looks like the contract says the onus is on them to get you out of it. The following is the first point under Jury duty in section 13 of the contract:

E. Jury Duty/Witness Appearance
1. A pilot will be released from duty, and paid and credited as shown on his line, to participate in a legal proceeding as:
a. a juror

I don't understand why I haven't gotten a jury duty summons. Surely everyone wants DENNYCRANE on their jury!!!:D

GUM base?

DeltaNet reports that we are getting a new business class lounge in Guam. I wonder if they are getting closer to opening a new base...

This is not about you getting out of it, it is about DAL submitting a request for you to be excused.

They were very close about three or four months ago. All they have to do is hit the execute button and off we go.

All I was told on the subject is that Flt Ops wants a five year commitment from Marketing that the flying will be there.

I say late this year to early next year if we are going to do it.

Denny

make sure you vote in every election, that will do it, trust me.

While residing in the great state of Texas I did just that. Exercising my rite to vote awarded me with four summons within five years.
