According to many on this board, the -9 is the most desireable category on the property. It's the manly man jet, makes your chest hair grow, builds muscle and character and does everything well including making lots of money.

I don't disagree with any of this personally and hope it gets a stay of execution. One thing is for sure, good old fashioned pilot skills are required on the -9.

I'm a commuter too and have seen my commute options shrink (from 9/day to 2/day) to the point that - to be legal - I also have to commute the day prior. I cannot wait for the May AE to bid to a commutable base and out of JFK - yeah, I cant same day commute to NYC - unbelievable. I feel your pain.

Point is there is no set method in which to derive expectations from.
That's the thing. I think a majority of us would be happier if there were rules. What they are is up for debate but just contractual rules to follow in how they assign SC would be a major improvement. With that you could plan and hold the company accountable when they transgress.

I know they like the flexibility of no rules so there will be resistance but It's worth while to look at IMHO.

Would there be a cost associated with assigning raw score points to SC? I can't think of any reason not too. I also wonder if dropping your raw by 15pts is too little?

Man I might have to hit the books on the 88. I've not seen that thing in a while.

Obviously, hence my problem with it. My getting to work is not their concern, its mine. As long as I show up on time when asked, it should not concern them where I am. Throwing out SC on the fist day just to stick a shiv in the side of commuters is BS.

By the way, I live in base. I'm just fighting for those who don't.

Why don't we bid on them just like we bid on EVERYTHING else we do in this bizness... oh that's right, because seniority doesn't apply to reserves... my bad.

I proposed that you get a 3-5:15 credit for SC, but it would only be used at the end of the month. It would be added to your total credit that you had flow. If you broke guarantee with that added credit great, but if not great too. This was pilot could not game certain day for SC and then be farther down the list for assignments. Along with that, if they go to assigning SC to junior guys it does not kill the senior guys by making them fly the first trips that pop up. In the end it would still honor seniority in the assignment portion of Section 23 but allow a person to bid SC and possibly gain a few extra hrs of pay for it.

This plan would not automatically add hrs to ones pay, they would need to work to make that happen, and because of that, it would more than likely be received warmly by the other side of the table.

Thoughts?

No it is the reason I stated above. I have SC tomorrow, but to get out of it, I Yellow Slip a trip today. That cuts down on their allowable SC pilots by me gaming the system. If we bid for SC's you will be seeing six a month whereas currently the average reservist is seeing about 2.5 per month.

I agree, and I may be a commuter some day. More than likely it will not be by choice, but either way we do need to help these guys. Hurting or not trying to help commuters because there are a FEW that live in the islands is no way to better this profession.

That system works if that scheduler works everyday. My guess is that scheduler A does it the way you described, but the next day scheduler B does it completely by raw score with the 4/5 day days-available only. Then scheduler C does it by raw score in the 3/4/5 days-available block.

If the cookie crumbles the wrong way, you could do a lot of SC in short amount of time. Last month, I think I did 3 SC in one week.

I know they need people on SC and don't mind doing my share, but I wish there was SOME system for how it SC was assigned. That way, you could say, "well, I got SC today but there's a decent chance I won't get it until everyone else has done a SC".

I'm also a big fan of getting a credit in the RAW score for SC.

How about 1 hr Pay and 2 hrs Credit for each SC and allow res pilots to credit up to Max Line Value using this credit.

Or another alternative is 1 hr Pay for each SC and start crediting Res trips like Reg trips. Again we could allow up to MLV so that RES availability is not reduced.
