Don't know if this was the situation but the dispatchers will file a flight for constant mach in the pacific if a flight is running late and there is an opportunity to get it back in time to make the original connections or later ones.

Some items that have smaller costs will be obtained as a result of this. The items that are significant cost changes can be identified and then debated at the MEC.

If we are going to make significant improvements to our work rules, then the process needs to start now. This is a great way to get that started. Waiting until 2012 is silly. I am underwhelmed by your lack of strategic vision.
We agree going after gains starts now. The SOT is a great concept, but nothing we should have to pay for simply to have a seat at the table in the form of a TA. Should be happening regardless.

I'm tired of contractual language like "the company will make it's best attempt" and "the company will make every effort." Why can't the contract read "the company will...or the pilot will be compensated..."?

Well, you can't tie their hands like that. Since reserves can only be assigned 6 short calls in a month, you can't have everyone bidding for short call (and be guaranteed to get it) at the beginning of the month.

What would be nice is to get more visibility into who was bidding what on any given day and a guarantee that at least xx% will be allowed to be on SC a day. My guess is that this is just a beginning for good dialogue with the company to put some processes in place.

Textbook CAL contractual language. For years we've been trying to get your old solid language. Hopefully our up coming stuff will resemble the language you used to see in your contract.

No, but you certainly COULD bid for short call just like we do EVERYTHING ELSE that affects our work schedule... They have empiracle data on how many short calls they use on average, and we could bid based on that data. If they require more than that.. pay/no credit (unless you fly). That would make them justify the number of guys they have on SC every day... no more "just in case". If they want to have a few in reserve for the "just in case" scenario, then they would only bid out (for example) 80% of the historical SHORT CALL useage.. not total reserve usage... short call reserve usage on a given day so that they would have the flexibility to assign SC in the event of IROPS. There are ways to skin this cat, and hopefully this SOT will find avenues to do that. My hope is that they will take input from the line dogs and not operate in a dalpa vacuum...

Exactly. I think we should have the SOT and the APCOT (Airline Pilot Central Optomization Team) work in conjunction to improve stuff.

Here are a few no cost items.

1. Reserve availability list that shows every day of the month not just two.

2. The ability to look at who has a WS, GS, or YS submitted and what the parameters of the requests are.

3. The ability to request SC preferences more specific than AM/PM since some bases only have AM SC times.

4. A list of who has requested SC for any given day.

Possible small cost items.

1. The ability to pick up a trip in open time any time during the month that fits your reserve days if you are under guarantee for the month.

2. A firm % of guys on SC based on whatever they use to figure out how many reserves they need. (block hours or lines not sure what they use)

3. The ability to move X days on reserve so you can have a minimum of 48 hours on reserve instead of 72. I would like 24 hours, but realize that makes you kinda useless most days.

Possible large cost items.

1. 75 hour guarantee for reserve guys

2. One more day off per month on reserve.

3. Same work and pay rules as lineholders.

So sayeth the Kremlin....
You can still do a derated TO with flaps 15. We did TO2 all the time under the old system and under the hybrid AWABS system too. But, your probably right, not as much of a derate. I just question where the point of diminishing returns is between engine wear and real high V1s.

Homie is glad he aint on any best practices committee

Sounds like a lot of the longer Asia trips will be out of SEA............I might see you up here?

Denny
I'm still waffling...........for sure jumpseats to MSP, better commuter hotels and probably better Asia flying in SEA or a REAL short commute over to LAX but on off line carriers.

Indecision is the key to flexibility

When does this thing close and I actually have to make a decision
