It's actually a little more enjoyable in Feb/Mar/Apr. Temp is around 75-80 degrees then. Today it was 90+ degrees. Still good scenery though, and cheap food/beer.
The reason for the Theatre currency is that for the next few years, DAL is opening/closing a few bases and everyone is going to be covering the different theatres until the Revenue Analysis people get the right planes on the right routes. Remember they came out with everyone completing the WWO trainging CD. That was the first part-the academics. The 24 month theatre qual currency policy came 3 months ago. That was the 2nd part and the regulatory portion. The last part is the implementation and in order to ensure everybody is up to speed...the 18 month CQ cycle with theatre sims every 9 months. It will depend on how robust/realistic these sims are. Delta is pretty confident the ASAP/FOQA/LCA program has pointed out the specific fleet threats by theatre and now the training boys have to write the sims to reflect these threats and ensure the line pilot is actually current. So...regardless of whether you ever fly to Africa...you'll be technically qualified (whether you've ever been there or not). There will still be specific airports within a theatre that will require a LCA or AQFO checkout, but they'll address that if the line pilot is scheduled and hasn't been there before.
1) Log on to Deltanet and go to the Flight Ops page.
2) Towards the top of the first column, click on "Flight Ops Merger HQ."
3) Center column under "Merger Updates" click on the memo called "Memo - Transition to Delta Payroll."
That memo is a pdf and has all the information you need. Hope this helps!
Hey all, a couple of observations from the 7ER western front in Narita. If you ain't one.......scroll down, and keep walk'en, nothing to see here.
The latest Western Hemisphere revision has all the Japan airports, South airports and primary alternates. So when you come over, pick up your Asia brick in Ops as normal. However, leave it in the shrink wrap and then throw it in a bag somewhere in case you divert into nowhere IAP in China. Why they just don't throw a couple of bricks in each airplane is beyond me. I assume it's a good reason, but.......
We don't seem to be tankering fuel down to Guam and especially Saipan anymore. Car gas on Saipan is $4.20/gal so if airplane gas is even close to the same ratio, we are paying a boat load for it there. And, no, I don't know what Jet fuel is in NRT for a comparision. And, yes I know it burns gas to haul gas. But NWA had a formula to maximize the tradeoff.
Dispatch is still learning about the operation out here. We were filed on a SID out of NRT going to Saipan that we had never seen before. Sure enough, we were told we had a change when we got the clearance, back to the SID we were used to seeing. I sent Dispatch a message that this SID was the normal departure for Guam and Saipan when I sent in the reroute info. The thanked us and said they would sent it up the chain.
Good trip so far. Met a southie Capt doing his first Asia trip out of his new base, MSP. A Dallas commuter who is digg'en not going to Atlanta anymore. He has another "old Asia hand" FO so I'll see how he enjoyed his cherry boy tour before we deadhead home.
Ferd
PS Dull Saturday afternoon at Godfathers. The Capt I was with was unimpressed as we were the only two people in the joint at 4pm. Damn 6am departures!! Who do I call about this outrage!!
PPS SPN to Nagoya is back in early June, it used to be an 8something am deaprture......there is hope yet!!

You don't understand the grievance process. You are required to attempt to work out the problem with crew scheds and then with your CP. If at that point you feel that a resolution has not been reached you involved the union. If at any point the company agrees with you and fixes the problem you have your grievance is over. You can't continue the process if you have been made whole which is normally the case if you are correct in the first place.
Where the process falls apart and fails is when a union or individual insists on pursuing a grievance that has no merit. If you do this often you poison the well for pilots going through the process in the future. Federal mediators have a memory. They know who wastes their time and yanks their chain. This can come back to truly haunt a pilot group at some point. Think about the next merger because there will be a next one!

But, is it possible that we had a different chain for the grievance process?
My chain at NWA was always:
1.) Beef with schedulers.
2.) Union (Normally the Contract Expert folks.)
The Chief Pilot was NEVER involved and I let ALPA do my talking (Or, in most cases, tell me how I was wrong.)
Is there a new DALPA memo I missed, 'cause I think we all should be on the same page.
Cultural differences, I guess.

As a Reservist:
I understand if I Greenslip one of my X-Days and they give me a 5 hour trip on that X-Day I will get paid 80 hours that month. But...
If I Yellowslip one of my X-Days and they give me the same 5 hour trip will I get 75 hours that month?
Thanks

Weed, as Satch stated it is straight pay, so if it is a five hr trip, you will get paid 75 hrs for the GS and a YS will just tack on the your monthly credit. If you were at 60 before the YS you would not be at 65. A YS does not go above guarantee. A GS does.
So ;
5 hr trip.
YS pays five hrs but is added to credit flown for the month.
GS pay single pay above guarantee for a reserve pilot, so that five hr trip pays a total of 75 hrs, not 80. Line holders get double pay after they hit the regular line holder GS trigger, which is normally about 75 hr or line credit for the month.
