Its just insurance. Besides, I never ever answer unless I'm on SC. Ever. If however more IA calls start coming in then I will delete one of those numbers.

As much as I would love to unload on O, I can't for sake of the rules. However, I think this had not too much to do with politics. The media ran with this story due to the outrage from the viewers. If you go back and look in this very thread, I made a couple of posts about this story "gaining legs".

I was working when this happened, and the three days afterwards were brutal. The public was not happy at all. The passengers had all kinds of nasty jokes and were sticking their heads in the cockpit asking us to not use our laptops. It was not a fun situation to be working those few days.

As I see it, the media fed the public who were already angered at the airlines. This was the straw that broke the camels back. To save face, Congress held hearings and the airline put them on leave. Senator Dorning wanted it pilots who missed a radio call to be violated. Thank God that rule didn't come to be.

I've got a question which I'm embarrassed to ask but...what exactly are our answering requirements if we're on long call and have checked our schedules online at 3 PM local base time? I've answered a few times when I probably didn't need to.

Check at 1500 base time and the next commit is to answer the phone at 0000 on your first on call day.

Do you mean coming off an X-day? I never answer my phone on my day off. When I'm on long call I don't answer either. Technically you never have to answer your phone on long call. Just check your schedule every 6 hours or so, 9 hours max since you've got 9 hours rest plus 3 hours to report equals 12 hours. Like I said, on LC you never have to answer.

I'm talking about a LC day. You check at 3:00 PM and nothing. The phone rings at 6:00 PM. Answer or not?

Personally, I would answer the phone. Less than 12 hrs, you can turn them down. More than 12 they've got you regardless, and I like to plan the rest of my day.

FERD,

757/767 going to GDL? Are you sure you haven't confused that with GUA? I think DL has 73Ns to GDL normally, and 757s into GUAT CITY. If you do go to Guat City, watch out for the sink holes.

Good point. That's why I have been. Thanks Job.
