The 727 had nothing automatic at all. Even if the APU was running, you had manually connect the generator if external power dropped off. If you were using the APU to run the packs off the bleed, and external power for electrics, if the external power dropped off, the pack fans would stop, and you'd smoke the packs before they tripped off. The idea behind "don't split power" was to prevent this from happening.

The DC-9 has pneumatic flow sensors to check if the pack fans are running. If the fans stop, the system will shut off bleed air to the packs. So this issue isn't a concern on the -9.

Yeah, that's kind of what I said, but I wasn't sure if any other aircraft out there had a similar problem as the old venerable 727.

T, when I was an FO on the MD-88, the Captain was marveling at the fancy new display. I stated that it's great, but that magenta line is going to ultimately cost us jobs and reduce our salaries. He thought I was a nutcase. He may have been correct about me being a nutcase, but I was dead on accurate with that prediction. I'm sure you will agree that new technology has allowed lots of people with minimal skills to fly airliners. This also equates to lower salaries. Switching from 3 man crews to 2 also cost us thousands of jobs. By the way, before the days of the calculator, I learned to use a slide rule. A sextant, what the heck is that? LOL

You picture reminds me of something. It looks like that is a -30 (Ship #99??). The rumor on here was that there are only 3 left flying the line. I flew one the other day and couldn't help but wonder if it was the last -30 I would ever fly. I'm going to miss them.

Darn new fangled "improvements". That Henry Ford and his dang blasted Model T didn't do me any favors either!

those really are very well done aren't they?! Nicely done, good message and for once we're putting airliners, crews and employees back into airline ads. I think they're well thought out.

the 747 is very photogenic isn't it?
