He can if the AE together with the MD would cause a displacement.
The AE won't be awarded.
That's how I read 22E1. ??

He is correct. If you don't believe me, call the union, or call crew resources.

AE's SUCK btw, just saying....
I'll Ive seen so far is a displacement into a lower paying airframe, block back to reserve, a follow on AE, but realistically another MD prior to conversion. I'm sure that MD will have another 210 day conversion for a total of 400+ days after my initial MD to the DC-9. Essentially seat locked after an MD because ATL over issues AE for morale that they knowingly will never honor; pseudo seat lock. This AE system is garbage.

On a positive note, a buddy of mine at another unnamed carrier picked up a better paying airframe two months after me, was paid for it the 1st of the following month and is already flying it while I plan my next MD. So much for the arbitrators' reasoning... I'd go back to fNWA tomorrow with 400 retirements in the rear view mirror.

On a different note, CRJ-900s parked at the main terminal in DTW.... Don't we have pay rates for those?

Sorry, grumpy after a four day with a reduced rest overnight before day four.

I'll agree 100%. I wish we had a monthly system like the old APA system. The AE system works, it just takes forever for everything to settle down and with the long conversions there is almost always another bid before alot of the training/conversions take place from the last bid.

That's correct. There has to be someone junior to you or a vacancy to MD. If after the MDs are run and no vacancies exist the senior pilot cannot bid into that category. Ive met some Captains that MD into a dying category for the purpose of someday having an MD into a better position within the system. I think the company chooses which order they run the AEs, so I have been told.

You may be right, I've never called ALPA to ask that specific question. I've spent alot of time talking to ALPA the last two bids, and basically was told that seniority will always win whether it is an AE or an MD. In this case I would assume the AE would be awarded and the MD would go to his next bid preference thus not causing a displacement. If your right, then I guess I could use my MD from the SLC 320 to take up a vacancy on the 777 in ATL if that is the case? Just doesn't seem right to me that it would work that way, but alot of stuff doesn't make sense to me.

When a new category is staffed they fill it with the AE. They then run the displacements. If they can hold it they get a slot and the bottom AE is bumped. It continues from there. If you are in a category that is going away you want blank AE and VD pages. Put what you want in the MD page only. I learned this lesson the hard way.

There has to be someone junior on the 777 or a vacancy to MD in. I've called Crew Resources and Training to confirm this.
