When big D decides to move 330 and or 744 time to Atlanta instead of all the DHs they use right now, we will see vacancies in ATL. I believe once this happens all who flocked to NYC to follow the 765 will return to ATL IF they can hold it and as Carl said NYC will be junior again.

If they do it all at once, there will be a massive bloodbath.
That's 200 Capt and 240 FO vacancies. Open season.
There would be a huge "flush" of ATL narrowbody pilots.

Its not about NW sucks. Its about where the bases will shake out. I think the answer to that is obvious. There is a reason why NW has so many commuters. Its not a slam on NW pilots. They don't choose routes or basing.
I don't understand the huge chip on the shoulder a very few NWA pilots seem to have. The ones I know personally and the ones I have flown with so far are all great individuals and pilots. Some however take every single thing as personal. I have never initiated a single subject putting down NW. I have only responded to posts with obvious errors, miss truths or half truths.
Life is not so bad at Delta Carl, relax a bit and you might even find something you like. Every NWA pilot I have talked with is glad the merger happened. Many saw the highest paychecks of their career this summer even before the pay cuts. Think of the glass as half full not half empty.

I think you're both right.
DTW and MSP will be the junior bases for lineholders.
NYC (as always) will be the junior base for reserves.
Just due to the hassle and expense of NYC for a reserve commuter.

Not really. If they displace 200 captains and 240 FOs, then add the same number of vacancies in the ER category, it would be pretty much status quo. Unlike the situation in SLC, the 7ER in ATL is not a new category. So all the guys/gals getting displaced from the 767 would have priority for any openings in the 7ER category.
Now, if they close the 767 category without an equal number of positions in the 7ER category, there could be some pain, depending on the difference between pilots being displaced and vacancies in the ER.
But all indications are it will be like the current SLC bid. The number of vacancies in the 7ER will equal the number of surpluses in the 767.
The most junior pilot in SLC prior to that bid, could have gone back on the last bid(May). If there are still displaced pilots from SLC its because they chose a line over staying in base.

Either way if a vacancy is created seniority gets the position. The only difference between a "new category" and a vacancy is guys with freezes can bid into the new category but not into a vacancy until the freeze is up. The only advantage of an MD is you can get into a category that has no vacancies if someone is already there junior to you along with no freeze and moving costs. When they create 20 surpluses on in the 767 category and 20 vacancies in the ER category those 20 guys getting displaced don't have any priority over people senior to them who can AE into those positions.
I'm hoping that your right and the small amount of growth in the 320 category will let everyone stay where they want. With all the moving of equipment and opening of new categories on the last two bids, it's tough to know who will go where. Hope to see you in SLC and would be just as happy if we end up in MSP.
I think your right. I would be very surprised to see NYC ever be more senior than DTW or MSP. I would think alot of the CVG refugees will go to DTW when that base closes up so it may be a little more senior than MSP. If I wasn't tied down to where I live now, I'd be moving to MSP...seniority there will be very good if you can make it work.

The ATL7ER being an established category makes a big difference.
