Nor am I referring to the MEC level. I'll wager that if Moak's salary isn't basically cut in half, there will be hell to pay. No housing allowance.. no car... just like all of us.... We don't see that and I personally join the campaign for the removal of national. But basically since you didn't quote what you were referring to, I assumed it was the potential for Moak's success at national. I ran with that assumption.

Depends, mainline or DCI? If it's someone calling me a sky N$@%, then I will probably tell the driver to wait until we see you coming out the doors, and then pull away. Fun for all! :)

AA pilots are traditionally known as sky nazis, FYI.

Western pilots used to refer to United as Marvin Mainliners... anybody know the history of that? I do have a fantastic story to go with it.. and I have verified it from two independent sources...

Anybody out there an AQFO? Is it a good deal? Can you still control skeds well? Pay? Training? Do you specialize in certain theatres?

I was one on the 767 domestic. It was a very good deal, fun being involved in flight standards and getting all the inside scoop stuff.

As a reserve, it gives you a complete new control of your schedule. The OE schedulers are saints. Pay is marginally better. If you are a lineholder and you get bought off you get the greater of the SAQ pay or the trip pay... typically just your normal trip pay in that case. Pay is 15% override for the legs you are teaching on. The 15% goes over guarantee if youre a reserve.

I was qualified on SJO, MEX, and all the snow airports except hayden I think. It's airport specific, or for an ER AQFO you can be qualified to "seeing-eye dog" for theaters as need be.

Training is one day, and then whenever you get qualified to teach into a place (or for a theater) you go into said place with an LCP or another AQFO.

Congrats if you got the call!

Disclaimer: I am not an AQFO, but I think the benefits/liabilities are going to depend on your aircraft type.

I talked to 3 AQFO on the A330. Here is what caught my attention.

If you are senior in the category it probably doesn't help you at all for scheduling.

All 3 AQFOs were told that they had to do ACC so they could do ride alongs. This was a big MINUS in my estimation.

"Office days" are fleet dependent, as in are they required, how many and can you do them via telecommute.

I'm sure there were other things they told me, but I pretty much stopped at that point.

Good luck.

Funny thing: when I was a new hire in the ER a couple of years ago I ran into LM in the hotel bar in AMS. There were a few of us down there but when he found out I was a new hire he sat down next to me a struck up a conversation. One of the points that he made was that our MEC had a long term plan (not just a goal, he emphasized, but an actual plan) to restore what we lost in BK. As a new guy at the bottom of a very big list and watching oil prices skyrocket, I was mostly concerned about loosing my job and restoration was the furthest thing from my mind. I thought it was an interesting comment from him though.

By the way, he (and by he, I mean DALPA ) bought the beers for all the Delta crew members down there that night.

Well, it's interesting he told you that. That is certainly more than we as a pilot group have ever been told. Whenever someone brings up the kinds of percentage increases we would need for restoration, someone else (usually a big Moak defender) pops up to say how unrealistic it is. That, along with the complete lack of communication of any objective, sure makes it seem different from what you were told.

Off topic but what is the status of our appeal ref the LGA slot decision?

acl65pilot 10-16-2010 12:28 PM

I would expect we will get a response right after the approval of the LUV/AAI acquisition.

I must have been typing and chewing gum again. The Pan Am logo was the SECOND most recognizable brand logo in the world after Coke, when it went out of business.
