Kudos to the MSP CP who showered the crew with Caribou gift cards this morning. Just when I thought my luck was that good I got a FAA ramp check on X'mas morning!

The whole FLCH discussion is much more fun over too many beers. First time I saw it come up was in the NRT Sports Bar where we had a transplanted ALT to MSP capt with an old head MSP FO, me and my LAX Capt. The other FO, trying to get over/around some weather at one of the islands had asked for "FLCH, continuous thrust, bug me to XXX Knots" to which the answer was, "what?" I would have asked for "mountain climb mode":D
My instance was that it must be "FLCH." If it's "flight level change" then the button above it would have to be "vertical navigation" :p Like I said, a much better story over beer:cool: I think most of the differences are driven by something else. For example, the radio head differences are due to the crazy town that is ATL. AWABS procedures and where it is in the checklist drives the Capt to setting the TO trim. Etc, etc. Ain't no big th'ing.............it's all 6 of one, half dozen of the other. As for the FMC, when in Rome do as the Romans do. Ferd Frats, |

All in fun Ferd.....but "the crazy town that is ATL? Course being a Southie my perspective is skewed but I think DTW (with all the ramp and grd/twr freqs) is no different than ATL. Again, its what you're used to, but using Left radio for departure (one head) and ground then tower(for the other head) and the right radio for ramp, atis, etc makes perfect sense to me. I know that a portion of the smaller North 75 fleet has that different radio head but thats just a small %.
Frats, Shoot, DTW is nothing now. Should have been there for the old terminal!! Now that was crazy town. I had a Capt years ago tell me you'll never understand DTW until you're base there.....he was right and I assume ATL is the same. As far as the departure freq is concerned, we had an ATIS/clearance card that fit nicely up on the dash that had the dept freq easily seen by both guys, on that rare occasion when it didn't get put in. No biggie, I like the printer better and, of course, Ill do it how ever ya want it done;). Good to see ya back on here Cog.........tell Mike I said hi if ya see him. Ferd |

Was/Is it "common" practice to "tell" the FA's to call once an hour to the flightdeck to "check on us" from the former south side? In 15 years, I have never heard that, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done. The FA wife also has never had a Captain say that, although she did get a little chuckle out of it.

Cog,
ATL isn't too confusing, it's just busy. And I like unbusy, why I go to the islands:D Rats, I'm tied up with family for the holidays then off to work on monday morning (bast@rds are making me go to NRT via HNL) or I'd get out for a beer or two. Enjoy the valley, this is the time'a year we live here for!! Ferd |

So how is ATL confusing? Each ramp has a freq and you call ground at specific, easy to see/find spots. I guess the only confusing thing might be the tower freqs being diff for ldg and t/o. Oh and enjoying the valley of the sun right now. Missed out on 3 calls from crew sked for IA's! Hiking South Mountain or Camelback tomorrow.
