Blizzard Warning NYC

Where's the snow??? Sitting in NYC at the long layover hotel with not a flake in sight. The WX channel keeps calling for a Blizzard. Of course, I have a late afternoon flight out of EWR and Mother D is still showing all is GO for a launch. Fun times in the Big Apple..... Good Luck to all.:p

Do not be tricked by Mother Nature's head-fakes. Get plenty of rest and food while you can. It could be a long night. :)

Good Advice Tom. Flurries just started, being a ANC refugee, I am well aware of Mother Nature's force. They just didn't hype it on TV so much.
Take care.

Was/Is it "common" practice to "tell" the FA's to call once an hour to the flightdeck to "check on us" from the former south side? In 15 years, I have never heard that, but that doesn't mean it hasn't been done. The FA wife also has never had a Captain say that, although she did get a little chuckle out of it.

I think I figured out the cultural difference. The southies would wait until the F/A's completed their initial service before bugging them. That means waiting until they call you. The north F/A's just expected you to call whenever you needed something, therefore they never called. I think a short brief on what the plan is would solve all the perceived problems with lack of service.

Getting paid for 255 hours and actually flying 255 hours are two different things.

I don't get the whole FA service problem. Is it an issue of feeling pampered? If you want something, ding them and ask for it.

Yes but do the south flight attendants say goodbye to the passengers? I've heard that the south FAs don't know how to say goodbye in Japanese. What's up with that!!

Ferd

PS.......you'll have to scroll back a few days if you're feeling lost:D

I usually have my bags ready before the main cabin door is open. Then I just cut off the HVC's in 1st class while flipping them the bird.

Yep, looks like he got an 85 hour 13-day trip as a REG GS trip plus 3 4-day trips worth 76 hours pay on his normal line. Should be a $50,000 month for this guy.

I disagree. Having been furloughed 5 times in my career, I still remember how awful it feels. As long as people aren't on furlough, guys should fly and work the system as much as THEY want. The company shouldn't hire until the operation is nearly ready to burst. That method is the best way to ensure that we hire just what we need, and avoid putting an airman through the sickening process of furlough.
