Call it whatever you want, I know scope will be important to the reps who will be providing the direction for C2012. |
Brief change of subject if not already mentioned, AMR is off of Orbitz and Expedia now... hmmm...
As you were... |

Johnson,
You have brought up a very good question and a very valid point. Compass was created in CH-11 (total leverage for management) but also the former Avros were replaced with Large Bombardier RJs at Mesaba for the 70+ total RJs. IOW, they used two aircraft vendors to introduce and/or replace the equipment in an expeditious manner. It really happened in a hurry. The real jab in the eye was the fact our pay cuts probably helped finance the new RJs for someone else to fly. My concern is future incorporation of our flying that is spun off at some point if we allow Scope to be eroded. The 50 seaters are not economical but 100 seat aircraft? I have no doubt even a regional could get the financing for such aircraft and they would be here in a hurry as well. I don't want to cross that bridge. We are making profits (generating cash) and paying down debt. It is a very good thing to see. With that being said, as someone else put on this board, I hope the pilot group doesn't fall for any accounting sleight of hand about having aircraft bought but flown somewhere else again. I am sure the 9s will be gone soon and the 88s will be getting long in the tooth. If any new aircraft are going to be flown, we have to be the ones flying them. Maybe they could get the financing. IDK. I believe in the past most regionals sub-lease their RJs from Majors. I know ExpressJet does from CAL, Pinnacle from NWA, and I believe ASA from DAL. I was hired at NWA after you, & I can't begin to imagine how it felt to be furloughed, recalled, furloughed again & recalled once more. I can understand why you're guarded. I just feel that we aren't going to give on scope. I truly believe DALPA won't even consider it. |

Well AMR is selling tickets at 69 bucks each way on almost every flight between DFW and ATL. They are as they normally are, wide open, and we are selling ours for a lot more than that and we are packed full.

As for Regional Airlines getting financing. They can, have and will be able to. Look at SKW 10K. They are a very healthy company and if provided a lift contract, they would get great financing as their balance sheet looks really good.
The outsourcing is about moving debt off of DAL's balance sheet. The lease payment becomes a fee or a cost. It is no longer a debt. Huge deal. If they want to keep doing this sort of thing, then fine, but we will fly em. I really do not care who writes the checks for the lease, or loan payments as long as they are operated by us and flown by us. |

...........Thanks!

I freely admit (disclaimer) that I am a DPA supporter. But I do not believe they are a panacea.
After reading the first letter from our new MEC Chairman I too am very concerned about the (glaring) omission of scope AND joint ventures. I also confess I am not a fan of Lee Moak. But what scares the bejesus out of me is the conflict of interest that exists at ALPA National, with respect to the Regional versus Mainline issues, coupled with a new DALPA MEC Chairman who at first blush says nothing about scope/joint ventures. I don't trust ALPA National and think they would sell us down the river in a heartbeat if it would result in greater gains for their Regionals and increased dues revenue. Similarly I think they would sacrifice what's best for Delta pilots to gain political favor in Washington. Many respected forum participants believe in "change from within" and I'll agree it's too early to tell with Tim O'Malley, but he's not off to a good start with me. I'm not pulling my DPA card.... |
