For those of us not with our families and might be "lonesome tonight", be thankful you're not the late great comedian Sam Kinison. Here is Sam singing a sad love song. If you listen really close about halfway through, you can sense just a touch of bitterness in his voice. I would embed the video...if I knew how.

Thanks to Airtran getting SWA wages via their merger, the baseline for pay at Delta will be Southwest 737 rates, for FOs and Captains. If you fly larger than a 737, it will go up from there. Current 12th year Captain rate over there is $210 per hour (or trip), and 12th year FO makes $147 per hour (or "trip"). That is just basic, and Delta can no longer state that they can't compete thanks to Airtran's lower wages. Our neighbors just got a big raise (or will be) and that is good for all of us, and that is the baseline to start with. Scope will not be erroded either. Delta knows this, and the recent profits won't help them much either. I don't think any DL pilot would vote to give up 100 seaters or more 76 seaters, not even the #1 guy.

sailing, you're dead on accurate. I'm convinced DAL is counting on moving the scope line to permit the regional's to fly 99 seaters in C2012, in exchange for a reasonable pay raise for us. My answer is an emphatic NO, but I'm not convinced the majority will agree with me on that. I certainly hope so. If ALPA considers that one, I'll be switching sides....

ALPA will have to consider any offer with large pay raises. If they didn't they would not be doing their jobs. I don't believe they woud accept such an offer, but they will look at it. 1. The MEC will direct the NC as to what they are to emphasize. Looseing of scope will NOT be part of the "direction given". 2. The NC would have to agree to include loosening of the scope in the negotiations. That would be against the better interests of the pilots and themselves. 3. The MEC would have to have a majority vote approving a TA that included the scope loosening. 4. The pilot group as a whole would have to AGREE as a majority that the scope relief is worth the other parts of the contract. All in all, I really, really doubt that we will see any relief in Section 1 of the next PWA TA. |

I hope you're right. I could definitely use the money. My $78,000/year salary is barely cutting it.
Happy Thanksgiving, hockey. ;) |

Just to add to this. Lets say that ALK or HAL is an accquisition desired by RA. He is going to need cooperation to accomplish this. Is he going to want to approach such a merger with a contentious section six hanging over his head? I am guessing he'll want to wrap this up sooner than later particularly if he thinks he will not have control over a merger timeline. There is plenty o' leverage lining up for the pilots if we play our cards right. |

you know, its thanksgiving, i was awarded it off!! and I'm sick. The irony. I thought you called in sick to get holidays off, not got them off and got sick.
so yes, i'm snokered on nyquil as i type so i probably wont respond to any responses to any incendiary comments i make from here on out... but rest assured, if it was me satch, i'd find tsquares house of beer. try the atl jetway code as the alarm code. if that doesn't work take your delta id. when the cops show tell them youre a delta pilot and not a word more. there is no way they'll question you sinxe its obvious only a delta pilot could live in a mansion on the beach in south florida. thrn say hi to donald trump and act like you belong there. |

I am guessing he'll want to wrap this up sooner than later particularly if he thinks he will not have control over a merger timeline. There is plenty o' leverage lining up for the pilots if we play our cards right. Alaska has less than 1500 pilots. Hawaiian has less than 500. Combined they're less than 16% of the Delta pilot group. Which costs more, a delayed integration or a substantial raise for 14000+ pilots? |
