Cheaper to staff with white slips & a handful of green slips than hire pilots. I have this vision in Crew Scheduling there is a sign over the entrance.

"THROUGH THESE DOORS WALK THE WORLD'S PREMIER EXPERTS AT UTILIZING RESERVES 69.9998 HOURS A MONTH,
with 400 hours time away from base!"

I also think they hold back the short call notfications then hold a betting pool on who can "do the best you can" to a departure 45 minutes after the call. "put $5 on FO Smith, he did 47 minutes to an international call after being on duty for 18 hours last week... ah nuts, FO Jones just did it in 38 and Smith just called in stuck on the connector. OK I'm doubling down on Jones ... put crew accommodations on hold... RATS! Jones is sick! Call Bob, he lets his kids answer the phone, GOT 'EM! ... no take the domestic guys that are timed out and put them on domestic, take the international guys and use them for domestic ... coverage baby, like I covered that $5 on Smith ... split the NYC rotation, put deadheads on both ends..."
It is the RUO. They call all of the WS's first then if no one takes it, they call a SC reserve. That is why it is always a short call out. Many pilots have WS's in for these trips, but with less than 12 hrs of notice it is a proffer.

Call it what you want. I say splitting up ER and domestic trips and cross assigning them is shenanigans. They have their ways of sharp shooting and most are excellent marksmen.

It probably is in their mandate to cover trips as efficiently as possible. They do their job well. I was joking, but, if I was in CS, I'd make bets to keep the crew entertained.

They must haaate me.

"what time can you launch"

"well it will take me 2 hours to sign in."

"So 2 hours from now?"

"no, thats sign in. The earliest I can promise to launch is 1 hour after that."

The RUO gives them so much flexibility it is ridiculous. Not to mention, since you see none of the data they use, you are being treated like a mushroom.
The short call estimates they are putting out are not worth the 13 seconds it takes to produce their WAG. SCs come out late for no reason, and I just asked for a later SC on the day prior, and didn't get it for apparently no reason. ACL, why are you defending this?

I'm done doing favors to scheduling, until I see at least one flow back my direction.

This may have already been discussed, but it sounds like the MEM and MSP DC9 bases are going to close either the next AE or the one in Mayish timeframe.

That'd leave MEM with 1 aircraft (A320). Still holding onto hope they throw a M88 base down there

I had a call last week on SC during the IROPS. I answered, "hey, how's it going?" "terrible, got a trip that pushes in 35 min, how long does it take you to get to the airport?" "If I walked out the door right now 1 hour to the parking lot with no traffic and then however long the bus ta... hello? You there? hello?" I kid you not, it was about that fast.

Pays to live far sometimes. However it sucks too. GS's sometimes bypass me for the folks at base housing because it'd take me too long to get there. Heck, my 1 hour drive last Friday was nearly 3 last week with NO TRAFFIC. ATL blows. If it wasn't near Alabama or near Tennessee I wouldn't like it none.

DID SOMEONE MENTION RUO? I think so.

Let's review. Oh look, a PM for me. Hmmm, I'll avoid, probably just another violation. Anyways, RUO, go to deltapilots.org and then to the library, contract awareness bulletins and look up CA 09-12. Download it. It's 10MB and 1000 pages. Do a search for RUO and every publication the union has made including the contract will show up. Or in the CA 09-12 go to Resource Documents > Scheduling > Reserves Reference Documents and there you'll find the reference documents on the reserves required formula and RUO.

Great stuff. You can download it to your iphone but I really wish I had a good app that allowed me to word search a pdf. Still looking for that.
