Of that I have no doubt or quibble. I find it hard to believe that I only have 15 years left... But my point is if people think it will get guys to go early, they are fooling themselves. The only thing you can count on is age 65...

So yes, it is your junior pilot @ss interest for them to get better medical and move on. Right now back of the napkin mean retirement is 62-63. I'm sure you don't mind delaying that upgrade another 3 years just so you can show those greedy senior guys.

I was saying what ONE Whale Captain told me personally, and I thought it was ridiculous. Do most Whale Captains have a large frozen pension? Probably. They did the best at Northwest because they got on early and stayed Captain on the biggest equipment the longest, but they also tend to be the most "needy." That puzzles me. They may be a small group as a whole, but some of them think they are the "only group." Nobody should bad mouth ACL, he has more insight than most, and that is why I frequent this board.

There is no guarantee, so I for one don't want to spend squat to get them a better deal.

Fair points. Was just telling Bill it's linked to all of us, and not just his greedy SPWB all about me pilot.

Even without guarantees of them leaving we do all plan to retire some day and hope to be able to afford it. NWA paid medical at ~ active rates until 65. DAL costs ~$800/month single, $1600/month married. May as well look at that as a net reduction in your retirement income on top of no pension. :(

Easiest way to guarantee they leave is to tie it to a PERP. The cost? Don't know, but I guarantee it will be more important to you 10 years from now than it is now.

You might be correct about it's importance down the road. But that is another contract away. Point taken about the reduction in retirement income.. that is probably fairly true.... buuuut. I still don't like the idea of it. If there is some kind of deal, those dudes need to be gone to get it. No hanging around collecting paychecks while being "retired". GONE.. then maybe I'll be interested.

We had a PERP at DAL before. It was to get rid of the pre 72 guys if memory serves correctly. The only thing I DO remember about it is that they got the money, and were allowed to hang around until their replacements were trained.. care to guess how long that took??
