Maybe instead of recommending our membership apply to SWA, DALPA should hire SWAPA to get us a new contract! They sure seem to have a good handle on Scope, Pay and Work Rules!! If only.....

An excellent point sir.

They have what they have because the company has good management and made 5 billion dollars hedging heating oil.
Scope at SWAPA? The company has never pushed them for RJ and does not want them. No accomplishment on SWAPA part.
The one thing that SWAPA does do well is make sure they work with the company to insure the companies long term success. What a concept!

By the way, SWAPA is not happy with their current position. They don't like where their cost structure is now and the impact it has had on career progression at SWA. That is why they have made no real effort to really raise the bar and have agreed to two contracts and extensions with very small raises. They don't want to be at the top. They want their company to regain its historical huge cost advantage so they can go back to the days of 5 year captains.

SWAPA has never agreed to the massive givebacks (Delta) and complete collapses (Midway) that ALPA agreed to and publicly raved about with big smiles on magazine covers.

Two sides to this story bud.

it wasnt about the 90, I was told the big wigs were talking about the

Like I said,"It is not our duty as pilots to worry about the rise of OIL (it means nothing)". The more we FEAR, the more management takes advantage.

Man it does my heart good to hear some of the more junior folks talk this way. It shows me that you don't believe the con-job that is being perpetrated by management/ALPA, and parroted by so many junior folks that hope to be management/ALPA some day.

Con-jobs are everywhere. Use your own logical mind to discern when there's a con-job, and you'll almost always avoid them. Succumb to emotion and fear, and you'll almost always fall for them.

New rule...oil contracts must have actual delivery between sales...

So I was wondering...

I noticed the reduced number of lines for April versus March, and I did a little calculation. THe international aircraft are mostly stable across the bases, maybe a 1% drop. The domestic aircraft are down abut 8% across the bases. The bases are not 8%, but overall it is about that number. So is big D reducing domestic capacity 8%, or moving more of the trips to other non-mainline aircraft? Or is my math wrong...

Hopefully this is not a trend.

I don't know, those numbers seem realistic to me...

25 days vs 5 days to break even means the capital costs for the MD90 are 1/5 of those of the 73N.
All-in with mods the MD90s are running right around $10M.
that would mean $50M for the 73N

Seems realistic and in the ballpark to me...

For comparison sake, the big CRJs are anywhere from $18-25M
The C-Series has a list price of $50-60M

An that's why we won't see the C-Series at Delta, it's just too capital intensive for the mission.
Instead, DAL needs in tat segment is something used, with modern motors so it's fuel efficient and low capital costs...
