Supposedly UAL taught its crews that it should mention prior to parking that they're early.
I really see that when you come into ATL 1 hour early and you won't get into the gate for 55 minutes so to a passenger we're 55 minutes late - unless you repeat we're way early, all gates occupied, for the sake of your luggage it's best when we don't swap gates, we're in the gate 5 minutes early. I had an old man getting off a plane unload his frustrations on me for being late. We seriously, no lie, 15 minutes early and we never stopped moving from landing to the gate. It just took 20 minutes to deplane but I don't think he was talking about that, to him, we were late and he needed to have it out with the pilot. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_OVDC8Ab6RF...pson_large.jpg |

Maybe a good buy, but guess who has the lowest all in CASM?
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3168/...dd78459f94.jpg The 737 also is a much more flexible platform. It does nearly every type of operation. |

Similar experience I just had on my rotation. Speaking of LAS - we had to wait at the gate 5 minutes with an engine running for a block in crew. When I was on the walk around I asked the ground guy what was going on and he told me they should have not blocked us in for 15 more minutes because now they were "bumping up against turn time". He said they would rather have us sit off the gate with an engine running so it wouldn't look bad on them now that they are too busy to turn the jet quick enough.
We can't win when the ground guys are holding us off the gate so it won't reflect poorly on them. Everyone is focused on how to avoid blame and covering up the issues in the process. |

Now wouldn't that be nice:rolleyes: |
The Emirates problem may take care of itself. It sounds like things are imploding over there too.
Saudi Arabian troops sent to Bahrain as protests escalate - Telegraph The ruling families over there must be feeling the heat. They are being squeezed from both sides. The Islamists want the monarchies gone and to install a Caliphate. The younger more modernist elements want more personal freedom. The poor want a bigger slice of the oil pie. Those business oriented governments that spawned Emirates and Qatar and Ethiad Air Lines may not survive the turmoil. I wonder what the Koran says about export credits to buy airplanes? |

Can you be specific what language you are referring to?
If I am not mistaken that language was removed. The ALPA National lawyers surrendered without a fight when RAH first bought Midwest and Frontier. They said that RAH was not an "air carrier" because they had separate certificates on the property and were just a holding company. Now that they have combined their seniority lists and the NMB will soon declare them a single airline, I think it is time for ALPA to revisit that issue. For anyone with an ounce of common sense who can read plain English -- Republic is violating our scope clause. Lee Moak and the bureaucrats in Herndon will just have to get over it. It is past time that we stood our ground and enforced our contract instead of giving another "concession". ALPA National's conflict of interest is going to have to yield to the mainline pilots this time instead of the RJ drivers. I am checking the NMB website every day waiting for that ruling. Now that the arbitrator has handed down a seniority list, the NMB should act real soon. |

I never use the word "late" in any PA's. If we are going to be early, I say so. If we are going to be late, I just give the expected arrival time. I am willing to bet if you asked all the pax on a flight what the scheduled arrival time is most would be lucky to get within 15 mins. It drives me nuts when I hear " we are only going to be 5 mins late". The pax don't remember the 5 mins part just the "late" part.
