When we scrap a 9 or 757 or 88, do we give up the parts or do we keep the reusable parts?

FTB,

Are you surprised that she has contorted the facts and logic of the rule? After all, she is a gymnastics coach. :D

Actually, I kind of am intrigued by what she said. "The airlines are saving on massive fines." I guess they're massive fines that we should be paying because obviously the airlines are making way more than $27,500/pax per flight in profit!

Or we should fix our problems and not cancel flights because it's obviously our problem and we should be forced to pay those fines until we get our act together.

Or better yet, we make money when we don't fly. Which could've been very true for SWA in years past as excellent heating oil brokers.

Totally intrigued.

I think part of it is the fleet size. Very few spare parts, and next to no chance for a substitution. It used to be no problem when we you could just pull a -30 out of the hangar. It sometimes caused an overbooking problem if you were subbing a -30 for a -40 or -50, but it was a lot easier then canceling.

I don't know if that's it. It seems like they have a similar ratio of spares as any other fleet. And from what the fNWA guys have told me, the airplane just didn't break all that much prior to the merger. In my limited experience, it seems that they usually have had the part needed... and when necessary, they often find us another airplane. But it still results in significant maintenance delays at a much higher rate than I've previously experienced on any aircraft at any of my three airlines. My understanding is that these maintenance delays and/or cancellations didn't happen as much prior to the merger.

Through process of elimination, the only other reasonable explanation is that it has something to do with DAL-S pilots flying 'em. :)

What do you guys think Delta will do with all the money they're making by saving on the massive fines?
