Just a correction, but I believe this was a SureJet 900.

Not so sure about SureJet being called Surejet.

I travel on mainline more than RJs, and your service isn't exactly steller...Your gate agents in ATL and DTW are about as bad as they get....Your FA's are also about as bad as they come....I've had much better experience recently recently on Air Tran, ASA, Skywest, Allegiant, and Sun Country...The worst I've had is Delta out of ATL, MEM, and DTW.....

Our caving on scope was a big mistake on our part. I accept that and will be fighting my union to take it back with all my might. It is MY highest priority. You and other regional pilots continue to provide management with their most important tool - working for far lower wages. This is the very tool that makes management want to outsource in the first place. When will you accept your half of the responsibility and what is your plan to change the current trajectory?
Carl Do you know why mainline's outsource? I'll let you in on a secret, it isn't the wages. It's the liability. Regionals indemnify their mainline partners of liability for their operations. In this litigation centric society, if you could transfer the risk for half of your operations to someone else, still collecting the revenue for the operation, wouldn't you do it? Notice in the Continental 3407 crash how quickly it became the Colgan 3407 crash. The families who are suing won't have a claim against the assets of Continental they have a claim against Colgan. Much smaller fish. Unless and until that veil of liability is pierced by a lawsuit it will be very difficult to convince mainline management of the reclaiming of scope. If that veil is pierced management won't be able to move the flying in house soon enough. It's all about risk management, not wages. |

Clamp,
If you can't see the wing tips how would the captain know there wasn't enough clearance? Experience? You can't see anything inside 100 feet from the cockpit of that whale. :D And certainly not the wings. |

That may be your experience. It's not mine. And it's not of most passengers. When you're sitting at a mainline gate and an RJ pulls up to it, nobody says: Oh great...it's an RJ! Nobody looks forward to gate checking their bag because only a pillow can fit in the overhead bins...if there were pillows. That's why people hate RJ's.
