Yep! We recently purchased tickets because of the spring break loads. Coming home had a 5:30am flight. Wanted to sleep in. 5:30am flight was oversold. I called to get a later, more convenient, more open flight. Called up reservations and it was $150 PLUS difference in the ticket price. Got on the internet and found the same flight for $115. It was $115 because it was empty. I can only imagine how many Delta Dollars were paid out because nobody wanted to re-book for that kind of cash! Pay $300 in Delta Dollars just to put people on the empty flight they wanted to be on to begin with! I can't wait to see the "big picture" when I retire and/or become MEC Chairman hahaha.

Friends who fly Delta a lot on business are all upset about the fees Delta has adopted which restrict passenger's abilities to change flights.

For example, the passengers find out a flight is oversold and they have no seat, so they try to change their flight reservation... and get whacked for $150. On Southwest this same change costs nothing.

The alternative is waiting at the airport until they get bumped off Delta, taking the Delta dollars and a hotel room for a flight the next day. Instead of a lose / lose which costs Delta money, why can't we give Agents the flexibility to do something smart that helps a passenger?

This "we are the World's largest and we can treat people indifferently because of our network" attitude has to get nipped in the bud. We are a service, it is our job to serve the passenger's needs. Much of the problem NWA had with its declining operations was IMHO the result of these fees that PO'd business travelers.

Rant over.

We need to start providing the company with this input. Not the stupid Customer Service email link but write Steve Dickson or the Pres of Cust Service. Tell them what you posted. Seriously..nothing will get done unless folks complain...the pax are voting with their feet. Maybe employee complaints will raise an eye. I'm going to send a letter.
Sometimes the higher ups can't see the forest for the trees......

Yes, but it's with EMB-175s which has a tighter seat pitch (distance between seats) than Southwest, although the EMB-175 seats are an inch wider.

Something tells me that the DAL Shuttle will suffer.

Except for one thing; Baltimore is not DC.

Its $420 for last minute round trip tickets on Amtrak from New York City to DC and back in the same day. Its $658 on Delta to do the same on our Delta Shuttle.

Now, sounds like a no brainer, the jet is going to be so much faster and worth the extra $230. So for that $230 more you only need 50ish minutes enroute to get to DC and the train block time is around 2:45. So the train is 2 hours longer.

But the block time for the Delta shuttle is 1:15ish, now you're looking at 1:30 saving. Of course, Penn St is on the island, LGA isn't... so you need to add that time getting off the island to LGA, plus getting to the gate, plus getting a taxi from DCA... advantage train.

And of course, LGA is LGA, so you have to hope that if everything is going well then you'll be on time...advantage train. In fact, for $230 less the train might have been faster on a bad weather day.

I'm just wondering if the greater cost, probable lack of time saving and headaches turn you off to the Delta Shuttle or any airline service from NY to DC?

I'm rambling.

I just checked the Amtrak fare. It was $109 each way same day service.

Amtrak - Reservations - Fare Finder

And yes... $658 on Delta return. If one lives in Manhattan... Amtrak is the way to go door to door.

Oh you're right. I did a business class seat on the Amtrak trip and not a coach seat. That $658 on Delta, is that a business class seat? ;)
