Good points on the train. Can it compete with the shuttles on frequency or are there big gaps in the departure times?

Off topic, but does anyone know if Delta now has some pilot jobs (as in management or other type additional job) at the Amsterdam or Toykyo hubs?

The Acela (the high speed train) goes every hour, on the hour. There are also regional trains that are not as fast, but fit in between those. Here's is some of the schedule today:

Washington/Union Station to New York/Penn Station:

11:00a (Acela)
12:00p (Acela)
12:05p (Regional)
1:00p (Acela)
1:05p (Regional)
2:00p (Acela)
2:05p (Regional)

There are many more today, just got tired of typing. That's a typical schedule.

The Acela takes around 2:45 for the trip while the regional takes 3:20

I'm just thinking, if I'm in lower Manhattan, would I'd rather take the subway to Penn and train it from there for $200 in a business class seat to Union Station and be a block from the Capitol Building or take a cab to LGA, go through TSA, walk through the terminal, board up, put everything away for an hour (if you're lucky and the skies are clear in 60% of the country and Saturn aligned with Venus but not Mars), land, and then grab a taxi to some Federal Building for a meeting.

Well then the answer is simple. We need another DCI company who operates trains to compete. What should the pay scales be for the engineers and cabin attendants?

Better yet, maybe in the next contract we can bring in Compass and make the new rail company part of DAL as well on one seniority list. You could cross bid. How long would transition training be on that?

I don't know. Navigational deviations couldn't be much of a problem. The choices seem to be only: go slow & stop. I'm thinking differences training on CD.

Heard the trips suck and the overnights are always the same.

I'll bet they don't have to carry Jepps for Tucson and New Orleans or any other places they will NEVER GO either... Where do I sign up for this gig?

Do not think that there are pilot jobs at those two hubs. We DALPA do all of that flying for now.
