I don't think it is that black and white, altough I think you just stated the ALPA official position perfectly. You are presupposing that they will not use any of the money we pay them for RJs to support the Airbus side of the house, and I think they will. And what happens when they grab one of "our" RJs to support an Airbus trip during an IROP? Yes, they will foot the bill, but we gave them the airplane to do it.
I am not satisfied with the "non-event" answer. |

If ALPA sits there and does nothing on this, it just proves how useless and weak they are. I half way expected this but hoped to be proven wrong. My opinion doesn't matter because I don't volunteer. Oh wait... I do.
Sorry for the rant, but this just really p*sses me off! |

If this doesn't prompt people to send in their DPA cards and start advocating this to others, I don't know what would. If ALPA doesn't have our backs on the big stuff (pay and scope), the good work they do on some of the little stuff doesn't really matter that much, does it? And anyway, I think $30 million in dues per year could easily cover the little stuff, some of which is already outsourced. ALPA is broken and continues to prove that it's not fixable. Every time I start to get a glimmer of hope, they do something else like this Republic thing. Sorry... but all this talk about improved communications and listening to the line pilots is just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. They are continuing with the Lee Moak philosophy and are determined that nothing is going to derail them from it.

Money to burn..
Just checked the mail and got a Delta AMEX sales pitch - in a nifty red folder, from the VP of customer loyality. If I sign up friends and family, I might win an ipod, a trip to a winery in Europe, or merchandise from Tiffiny's and Co.
I get enough crap in the mail, now this - Thousands of $$ just in the mailing and printing costs (75,000 employees). |

Irked enough to get involved, and run for a Status Rep position and become one of the policy makers. Irked enough to put your reps feet to the fire?
That is what is needed if you feel this strongly about something. Irked enough to be a "status rep"... Wild horses couldn't drag me into that briar patch. There are few things that appeal to me less or that would fit my personal situation less. I'd write more right now, but I gotta sign off cause I'm deadheading on an airplane and have to turn the computer off now. |

Irked enough to put my reps feet to the fire... absolutely! They will be hearing from me, and they better have a good answer on this one.

That's because the person in charge of communications, instead of policing the forum, couldn't help but editorialize, and preempted the MEC by issuing a formal ruling in the middle of a thread.
The MEC should decide these things. Scope is too important. We already knew the administration's position. I'm sure the MEC will get a thorough briefing (from ALPA attorney Obi-Wan). "This is not the scope violation you're looking for. RAH can go about their business. Move along." |
I fly in general pretty good trips. I often have reserve pilots on those trips. The flew a 3 day Athens where both co pilots were reserves. That will never happen with a last minute swap policy. But what the heck. Since I am senior lets go for it. It will insure I never fly any bad trips. At least once a month I see something covered at the last minute I would have preferred to what I am flying. Since all the reserves seem to feel my comment was way off then lets go for last minute swaps. It sounds like its a win for line holders and a win for reserves. I would certainly like it!

I put this with voting for the President of the union. They don't have to and it wouldn't do those in power any good to allow such a change.
I'd be tickled pink if they did but I'm not going to think twice about it because why give up that kind of power to hot headed unlearned pilots who haven't paid their dues by coming and volunteering and falling in line? Nice vote there... |

Yet you'd put in a Teamster's card that would put a "business agent" in charge...
Nice vote there... Is that the best you've got? |
