Well, it is interesting to look at the seniority of those pilots who will have to retire in the next 2 years. There are about 60 pilots who will reach age 65 by this time in 2013. Of those pilots 23 of them have seniority numbers greater than 5000. Wow. Only 7 have double digit seniority numbers. Two of them have 6 digit seniority numbers. .
LOL... Yeah, I do hate that phrase, "double digits"..."four digits"... "your pay could be in the 5 digits!"...
First, you know the guy writing it had to sit and think about it, counting digits in his head, and convert from some number he had in mind ("erm... 100,000$ would be a six digit income, but it could also mean $990,000, so I'll call my $105,000 income 'six digits' as a way to scammilly chat it up!").
Second, you know that every person reading it has to sit there and think about *** it means, and what's the LOWEST number it could be, which of course is what the author REALLY means or he'd use the real number.
Third, there is about a 90% chance, maybe even a three digit chance that both the author AND the reader translate that public math wrong and post some complete crapola. I draw your attention to exhibit A.

Uncle Sam's post did get me digging into the seniority list and category lists to see how many furloughed guys were senior to me, how many mil leave guys, potential retirement guys, etc...
Turns out there are about 1100 pilots senior to me who are currently not at Delta or bidding, who could come back conceivable and bump me downwards! That includes like 170 furloughed, 250 mil leave, and a ton of sick guys. I figure that the furloughed guys who haven't come back have found other jobs and won't. But the military leave guys are probably all getting close to a retirement or bumping the Col-BG wall and they could come back, in fact it seems likely to me they would. Now the NBC SIC list... no idea what that's all about, or how many of them might ever get back to the line.
Anyways, it just seems that having 1100 potential dudes out there who could show up and bump you downwards, after 10 years, is an awful lot. I'd think most of the furlough guys will drop off the list over the next year as they exceed 10 years out.

Ftb is upset because on his computer is a delta hat that would fit so nicely on future ferd's head but oh no, limited to the iPhone right now and the iPhone doesn't have Microsoft paint... ##########
By the way, you ever seen Newk's stealth DC9?

See a 9? Probably not but go back and keep looking, staring, staring like it's a magic eye game and the 9 will pop out. Promise.
Here's Ferd playing relief pilot for New, he never looked at the howgozit but determined he would be in the back from API start till apu shut down...

Or maybe I just should have said, "There you have it folks, another picture of Thursday night in Knoxville."

RK;
I dont know if it is true or not, but back in the days of age 60 retirements, I was told that 17% of the pilots did not make it to age 60, they left earlier - for any/all possible reasons. Again, I have never attempted to independantly verify this, but even though it sounds high, that was the percentage being thrown around. In my class of about 25 pilots, 4 are already gone and the average age of my class today would be around 45-50.

Age 60 may make more sense for airline pilots, particularly with the potential loss of medical.

Wash that image from your brain
But no matter where I go, with the rope tied to bring me safely home, I always seem to run into this dog doing the same thing as I but never with a safety rope...
