"Our Scope allowed DAL to replace over 1000 Pilots after 911. At the same time our passengers were still flying to the same cities on DAL tickets - its just that DAL Pilots were not flying them."

Even if DAL had merged with ASA and CMR there was no requirement to have all DCI flying flown by DAL/ASA/CMR, the growth could have gone to the other DCI carriers, as it did in some circumstances, and DAL still would have retired all the MD-11s, L1011s, 727s, 737,300s and 737-200s, which would have most likely resulted in furloughs.

It's all about cheap labor, look at what's happening at CMR today, that's what would have happened earlier rather than later had we merged.
JMHO.

Reroute,

That is not only a true statement but is also a fact. Please reread my above statement - what part of it is not factually correct? You can argue cause and effect but the above is indisputable fact.

DAL furloughed over 1000 pilots after 911 (yours truly included) while DCI hiring went into overdrive. It does not matter who did the DAL flying - it was not done by DAL Pilots.

I am not talking about what might have happened or what could have happened but what actually happened. It does not matter what connection carrier got the flying.

You mention DAL parking a bunch of inefficient aircraft, I agree DAL did park a bunch of inefficient aircraft. Now don't you suppose the fact that DAL had hundreds of DCI fifty seat jets standing by (it does not matter what flavor of DCI - just the fact that they were available) made it easier for DAL to not only accelerate the parking of the aforementioned jets, but actually to park them while still accommodating "Delta Passengers?"

That is the very essence of Scope. DAL can park all the mainline aircraft that it wants too. With strong Scope DAL will then not be able to accommodate the same number of DAL passengers. With weak or no scope those passengers just transfer to DCI as they did post 911.

My point is simple and the same one Bar made: If DAL can sell DAL tickets and fly DAL passengers without DAL Pilots - that is a Scope failure.

If not - why bother with Scope at all?

I just noticed that. Kinda hard to justify... after how many months? So, Mods, what substantially changed about that thread that suddenly justified moving it?

The majority of mods has apparently shifted to pro-ALPA folks.

You mean the rewarding and awkward situation in which we take planes from SWA and pay our pilots $40,000 to $60,000 less per year to fly them then Southwest was paying former AirTran pilots.

That's pure PR gold.

Now we can frame everything about bringing DC-9 pay to parity with SWA pay and the DC-9 is our lowest on property paid aircraft. I love the idea of having the PR wind to our back, I really do.

I almost sound drunk there don't I?

And someone thinks SWA has us scared [edit]less. Id anything has us scared [edit]less it's that we'll miss the golden opportunity to have some wins that'll make Charlie Sheen blush.

That's not the quote I was referring to. This is what you said:

"I will jump in. Regardless of what you think of Bars post overall, he is spot on with the following statement:"

"One result of not merging ASA & Comair was Delta pilots being furloughed while the regionals hired rapidly to replace them. Even you must admit, that is CLEAR evidence of a scope failure when one division of Delta flushes and hires those furloughed pilots to replace themselves at much lower wages. That is what happens when union leadership decides against unity."

That Scoop is pure speculation. Merging DAL/ASA/CMR would not have captured DCI flying. We would have been one of many members of the portfolio, probably the higher cost option. We, in all likelihood, would have received the same amount of growth as CMR is experiencing today.

If DAL wanted DAL pilots to fly RJs they never would have purchased ASA/CMR or contracted out to DCI. It's all about securing the lowest cost labor.

Merging ASA/CMR with DAL would not have secured any RJ flying.

I agree that our scope allowed DCI carriers to prosper while DAL pilots were furloughed, but I disagree that merging with ASA/CMR would have prevented it.

Because I don't mind making WAY less than cargo pilots or a low cost carrier. Cargo pilots. Seriously.

The last time I went through MSP, this airplane flew a lot of passengers out of Gate 3, from there to Seattle, Washington, with the help of Delta agents, ground crew, and Delta everything else. I've flown this route before with DC-10's and 757's. What is this?

THIS IS A SCOPE FAILURE AND OFFENDS ME JUST AS MUCH AS RAH.

IMO, our scope is being eroded from ALL sides.

Why is this not being addressed?

We also load them up with our passengers every day at the end of the A terminal in Atlanta and send them off to Seattle. The only base they are not in yet is SLC.....expect that to change soon when their new regional partner SkyWest starts SLC-SEA. Then we'll have Delta passengers flying on another airlines regional carrier.....freaking mess.

I agree. all this outsourcing makes me feel sick and it makes me feel like I am being slapped in the face by management. We need to get rid of Republic, ASAP. Our relationship with them is nothing more than Toxic.
