Nope, I haven't used a backpack since college.

Take a good look around campus and you'll see a pile of our guys carrying them. I was surprised when I came over to the varsity side at how many have them after all the rocks being thrown on the forums about regional guys carrying backpacks. In fact, I've flown with more guys here that have backpacks than I did at the regional.

It seems to have increased even more since we stopped carrying flight kits.

The auto notification doesn't actually start being used until the 22nd.

Not asking for codes and locations, just curious. I'll be stuck there for a few hours soon.
Its outside of security. Not really worth it IMHO unless you have a long sit.

The difference here is guys put them on their roller board, not on their shoulders.

As I understood the memo, it is looking at active rotation changes. It currently will not do WS, GS award, only changes to the active rotation. The other changes will be forthcoming.

That said, it is a one way notification system. They cannot guarantee that you received the SMS text message, and there is not way to confirm receipt. All this does is give you a heads up that your rotation has changed and that you will need to acknowledge it via the contractually approved methods. Part of the issue initially with this textcaster type of software is that it is one way.

Once the Tablet type readers come out, I am here there will be a Scheduling interface that will update your sked in real time on your reader. We are probably a few year away from that.

They are "RJ's" by our definitions, but to an accountant there is no distinction with mainline equipment. The DC9's will be replaced with E175's CRJ900's and a few MD90's. Mostly the MD90's are going to be used to take cycles from the 757's.

We need to get them here (warts and all). It can be a cost neutral exchange. I hope bringing those on board is at least contained in our opener. We should be supporting American and Continental / United in this effort.
Go UCAL!

Bar, I can't seem to ever crack the BTS code to break out the CASM numbers by aircraft for the airlines. But what is the CASMs for the rjs vs the 88 and what CASM is it? Is it total cost divided out by ASMs broken out per ASMs flown per type or just DOC?*

I ask because what is their $ advantage come out to be and what happens to the CASM when we suck out the overhead costs of profitizing another corporation to do our core competency?*

So word from the [redacted] I spoke with Delta nixed iPads for crews.

$1500 for domestic jepp kit vs $700/2 years for iPad. iPad could tie into wifi to give enroute weather if [redacted] said we'd do it right but it's class I and good to go with FAA, if we'd ask.

But word from up top, no iPads.

According to [redacted].

Boooooo! IPads simply make sense...heck, I own one and could use it right now if they'd let me do it onboard. I've got the Jepps, charts, FOM, Vol I & II, everything with no problem, 10-hour battery life, rugged, durable, and the word is "NO"??? Maybe they have a better alternative, but the IPad is commercial off-the-shelf technology that we could simply "plug & play".

I've shown the capabilities to every Captain I've flown with, each with the same response: "I'm getting one!"
