Not really. They enforce their scope language just as DALPA does. SWAPA just happens to have a better scope clause to enforce....
I agree SWA has a better scope clause. I am still waiting for DALPA to come clean on how RAH doesn't violate ours. Make a believer out of me and I'll shut up about it. Until then I have nothing but contempt for our scope defense. |

There is a whole bunch of bad info posted here on the Ipads. Here are a the main points.
1. Delta has not ruled out buying Ipads. They are being tested as we speak. 2. There is no issue with other employees since the Ipads would not be for personal use and more then likely locked out from downloading apps ect.. 3. The IPad is not certified for use below 10,000 and must be turned off. It can't replace Jepps in the cockpit. It can only replace other company publications most of which are stored on the aircraft such as the MDM. 4. The GPS in the Ipad does not meet any avaition standards and could never be used for Geo referenced positions on plates and charts. A huge negative for the Ipad. 5. Delta is testing several other options more avaition oriented that offer a lot more functionality then the Ipad. The cost however is higher. 6. The test period runs into the summer. No decisions will be made for a few months. The iPad is out because: RA doesn't like Apple The iPad has no fileserver and no USB and no Flash Unfortunately our current "state-of-the-art technology" is being used as the starting point instead of starting fresh. I'm less worried about not getting the iPad and more worried about: "In the future your training will be on a USB thumb drive" Seriously, we're gonna change media from a CD to a USB stick? If I were King, I'd make everything run in a browser, any browser. Then *any* device that can access the internet would work. And there really only would be one place that needs updating. Make the device sync on sign-in and everything is up to date. Cheers George P.S.:iPhone 4 was certified for spaceflight and is being transported to the ISS on the space shuttle... I'm with you Scambo, I think if anything it shows a lack of action or enforcement on our behalf which doesn't bode well for any of us. When the next contract comes around the scope restrictions that we hopefully put in place will be fruitless and meaningless without any type of concrete enforcement from the pilot groups behalf. |

Funny how bean counters from differerent airlines come up with different numbers. So far we have Alaska and American who say it makes total sense moving to ipad. Delta: "Nope we like paper". Hmmm
American Airlines to save $1.2 million shifting paper flight charts to iPad AppleInsider | American Airlines to save $1.2 million shifting paper flight charts to iPad As much as it would probably save in the long run, I think you would be looking at a relatively high upfront price. The company is probably trying to figure out the best time to show such a loss due to this expense. I've heard that Jeppesen isn't exactly passing on a huge amount of the savings onto the airlines even though production and shipping costs would go down. Makes sense to hold out for this until Jeppsen starts offering a better deal. Personally, being an Ipad owner, I think the devices are great and I have started to see there application in other parts of our company, but I think there may be better options out there. The devices are great, but beyond there usability, there is a public stigma out there that goes along with pilots using Ipads, especially after the laptop incident. This isn't exactly a driving factor, nor should it be, but it would be foolhardy not to think that the potential for distraction would occur somewhere in the system. (Dependant on how they are reprogrammed of course) Talking Tech | Ipads on Alaska Airlines on Vimeo I would love to see something like this soon, but just looking at the size of our company, I think we are a good amount of time away from this. I'm typically wrong though so, who knows. |
