Maybe it's just me, but this move by Delta mgmt almost seems like a calculated poke in the eye against their pilots and ALPA. Contracting with a company started expressly to circumvent an ALPA contract, whose formation resulted in ALPA pilots being furloughed, staffed by pseudo-scabs who gleefully took the job knowing full well they were climbing over the backs of TSA pilots...how can that be anything other than a message? The message is "we will outsource every single seat we think we can get away with, and you are powerless to do a thing about it." GJ can't be much cheaper than ASA/Skywest, not enough to justify another DCI. This was a shot across the bow of anyone thinking scope restoration in 2012.
Scope restoration needs to be priority 1 in the next contract. |

It shows how little they actually care about their product. Unbelievable.
Scope restoration needs to be priority 1 in the next contract. Sure would be easier to call it "our product" if we were actually flying more than half of it. |

:p I had two TWA friends go work there before being recalled by AA. They say that they will not allow their family to fly on GoJet because of the general lack of proper maintenance, the poor quality of many (not all) of the pilots they hired. Their maintenance has been fined several times, and their pilots had a rash of violations. The only reason that the FAA has not yanked the TSA and GoJet ops cert, is that they are the only two 121 carriers left in the St Louis FSDO. Thus they would be putting themselves out of work.
Both pilots seemed to be embarrassed having me on their jumpseat, and in hindsight, I understand why. It's a terrible operation, full of UAL furloughs and mediocre people. Luckily, these guys will now act as Delta ambassadors. This, quite honestly, is the worst airline these airplanes could have gone to. Mesa would be a step up; if for no other reason for the competent pilots that work there. Lastly, this is a slap in DALPA's face, not to mention the ALPA pilots that fill nearly all the DCI ranks (except Republic and SKW). Rewarding an airline that exists under such sinister circumstances is wrong, and spits in the face of those of us who came by our jobs honestly. Strange that Republic and GoJet (non-ALPA DCI carriers) have gotten a combined 24 additional 70-seat airplanes in the last 4 months while Comair and Mesaba park airplanes. Noble move, Richard. I hope you live to regret it. |

So yes, I agree, we should be allowed, if not required, to fly under our own colors. If this was the type of thing ALPA was in DC lobbying, they would get my $upport! |

I can corroborate this. I rode their jumpseat home one day before I had any idea they existed. The F/O claimed to be a AF heavy guy, and the (UAL) CA had to take the airplane from him twice during the flight. I would imagine this guy didn't have the C-5 time he claimed he did.

As an aside, my second favorite oxymoron in the airline industry is GoJet's use of "Lindbergh" as a callsign. The only pioneering GoJet has done is in the circumvention of the collective bargaining process outlined under the RLA. My favorite oxymoron is "regional elite" - which incidentally will be the company most likely responsible for the ground handling of the "Lindbergh" aircraft. Lots of turd polishing going on.. |

NOT ALPA. This is a shot across ALPA's bow just as much as it is a shot across the Delta pilots bow. Unbelievable. TSA is one of the worst organizations I have ever seen period. |

Like a Guard or Reserve job? Serious question.
I would do some serious research into this before I did it....... I had a second (per diem) job for a couple of years flying around a 757 that has a new owner and and looked at this seriously but I didn't think I could do it based on my situation. And before anyone asks, I had written permission from Delta to do it. It ended last summer. So sad, it paid GREAT when I could do it!! Denny |
