Considering the letters I got back from my senators in regards to the FTDT stuff (yikes is all I have to say), not to mention Age 65.... I'm not sure how much influence that really is.

Anyone seen CrewPass?

Pilot Commentary The Entitlement Mentality by Capt Joe Doniach (United)

Nice. I can't believe the union would put this in print. Except for the "don't blame ALPA, blame society".

That article from the UAL Captain who thinks a bit highly of himself is truly (withheld).

Reminds me of this:

You know what it reminded me of, reading an email written at 2am by someone who is very angry.

One of my friends sent me this. I wonder if they are trying to tell me something? :)

You've got their attention Carl. (and yes, by "you" I mean DPA). I think as a result of DPA success, DALPA is far more aware of the pilot group's deep apprehension about too much Moak-style constructive engagement leading to a management walkover in Contract 2012.

I just think that your "walking and chewing gum" metaphor understates the seriousness of a simultaneous decertification drive going on while the contract is open.
Perhaps a more appropriate analogy would be "fighting a two-front war".
I don't want DALPA to have to do that if we can avoid it.
Respectfully.

Here's why I don't think that analogy is appropriate: If ALPA would just fight the war they are supposed to fight (against management) there would be no opposition whatsoever. There would be no other front. As it stands now, DPA is blocking all the exits for DALPA and forcing them to fight. DALPA will either fight or lose representational rights. DALPA can either see it as a two-front war, or a sharply focused confrontation against one party. It's DALPA's choice.

Do you equate having a "seat at the table" with influence?

Carl

How much influence do you have if you're not even invited?

Some > None

Carl;

I do not like how DC is run either, but that does not change the reality.

The right thing for them to do is to abandon their de-certification effort and join the other 8000-9000 pilots in showing a united face toward mgt. That is the fastest way to, "restoration".

T

Au contraire. Just wait until 11,000 pilots see the opener that DALPA pinches off on the table. It will put DPA over the top if they aren't already there prior to that epic moment.

These two things happening concurrently is actually the strongest hand we can have in front of management. This is why management is fighting so hard to keep DPA off the property.

Carl

That's an interesting idea; the old "good cop/bad cop" strategy. "Look, we're trying to be reasonable here, so help us out. You wouldn't want Moose and Rocko to come in and help you find your wallet, now would you." :D

Influence-don't care
Results-care

If I held one in each hand right now, one is a lot lighter than the other.
