No way no way. There is not enough room out there for more than one airline. That market can't bare it.

That's why only Alaska can do it. If one airline tries to move into that market the whole thing will collapse and those people out there won't even have airline service anymore between places like LAX and SEA.

That's why Eskimos before Bros.

I heard SWA airlines on a proving flight between the mainland and hawaii on Aug 25 trying to make a position report on 123.45. Made me smile a little bit.

Peruse through the bid package and look for the 88xx or 89xx flight numbers. Those be the charters, but it takes some research to figure out who you're flying.

My last day on the 737 this weekend is an NCAAF charter for a team that our auburn boys on the board here love to hate. You get fed GOOD.

If you're on the 737, be careful with trying to snag the braves charters as there is a legendary guy that is horrible to fly with that loves to do those.

Thanks, I will steer clear of the Braves charters. I am a Philly fan when it comes to baseball, and I don't think the good Cappn would like me much :)

When we had a real cap your pay in a month could not exceed the cap unless you had a GS. If the cap was 75 hours and your actual credit for the month ended up being 82 hours you only got paid for 75. The 7 extra hours rolled over into next month. When you reached a point where they could drop the shortest trip on your line in a month and not put you below the cap then that drop was mandatory and automatic. So if you carried in 12 hours in bow wave and your line was 74 hours with a 10 hour two day as one of the trips you were now projected at 86 with the bow wave. The two day trip would have to be dropped and you would then have 76 hours. This automatic trip drop also applied in the current month to reroutes ect.. that generated extra time. I once had a 1 day trip turn into 7 days. All the credit caused the rest of my trips that month to be dropped.
In conjunction with Bow Wave we had spillback. If you had a month you did not feel like working a lot you could take any trip in the following month departing before the 10th and spill it back to the previous month to fill that month up. You could then pick up more that month. A nice feature when you wanted to build some big off time blocks.
The beauty of bow waves is that it removed all incentive to try and work more unless it was a GS. Back then we used 14 to 15 pilots per narrow body aircraft. Today its 11 to 12 and the aircraft utilization is up. Jobs are way down.

Thanks, here's a question, iyho would I be wrong to want to go back to that?

Like it was mentioned we have to save ourselves from ourselves. It'd be better to go back to adding pilots throughout the system and having movement than for some to make a lot of money off trip parking.

I mean add 3 pilots per ship you're looking at 727 x 3 and over 2100 pilots hired. That's not all at the bottom, that's 54 more 777 pilots, 45 more 747 pilots, almost 700 new 767/7ER pilots, almost 100 more A330 pilots, 400 A320 pilots, 430 MD88 pilots and so on.

I meant Alaska has attempted to flood the WC-Hawaii market. DL sees the flood, throws a sandbag or two then heads for higher ground. Hope we're ready for the next flood.

I want a Baron 58... I think. Something decent that can actually take the family places so I don't have to non rev. But the makes and model changes month to month.

But if not an airplane I would like a elk drunk on fermented apples in my tree:

You know when your wife takes you to the store and says "which one looks better, this one or this one?"

Well, which one fits better:

"Mr Johansson said the elk appeared to be sick, drunk, or "half-stupid", the Associated Press reported."

...and that's no way to go through life...

How many teenagers are out tonight to find fermenting apples still hanging on a tree? And what's the tolerance kn an elk? If a human ate those apples, what would happen?

Am I going to have to read beyond the first paragraph to find out?

p3flteng 09-08-2011 06:09 PM

Better to eat the elk......
