This must be why our stock did well today:
ATLANTA, Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) today became the first airline in the world to provide in-flight Internet service onboard its regional aircraft with the launch flight of a Wi-Fi-equipped Bombardier CRJ700 operated by Delta Connection carrier Atlantic Southeast Airlines. Delta had previously announced its plan to expand the number of Delta aircraft - which currently includes its entire domestic fleet of more than 550 aircraft - with onboard Wi-Fi to an additional 250 regional jet aircraft operated by Delta Connection carriers. No the B6 operation would move to T5/6 and the B6 terminal would be ours. It makes no sense to spit half of your op on one side of the airport and the other on the other side. B6's terminal is next to T-4 and therefore would make perfect sense for us and little sense for a merged B6/AMR.
B6 may have brought something to the table before we invested over a billion and broke ground in terminal 4, but right now it seems like a really convoluted way to end up with the same number of gates in a narrowbody terminal and we'd obviously have to give something up, like 2 and/or 3, which I guess we could give to B6 in a swap but we'd have to renovate 3 first. So what does this do to Bombardier C-Series program as well as Embraer's E190 program to have Delta come out and say basically we're not ordering anything new for years?
I also guess no B777s or 748s? Or more 737s? I think this kind of points to the 717 more than it does getting the E190 or small C-Series over at DCI. It'd be super clear if we just ever heard the words "we will not have any increase in the size of DCI jets or fleets." It really makes you scratch your head not to see that articulated more clearly because anything less is to say we'll use it as a bargaining chip. I also don't quite understand why we would sublease aircraft from someone who was leasing it? Why have Delta pilots fly Skywest airplanes. Money has to come from DAL to pay Skywest to pay those leases. I guess I just don't get how that scheme would be advantageous over subleasing them from Wells Fargo or whomever it is directly. Not to mention we're saying we're going to buy 100 739s in cash if I'm not mistaken. |

The aerial view of terminal 5 would make a pretty Delta sign though with its triangle shape and all. That might be worth a billion or two for an otherwise gate neutral experiment.

Since a rising tide lifts all boats, we assisted GoJets and Skywest in securing C2K rates for their 727 flying. That way, our pay will rise automatically as well! It's called unity. It's a win-win. |
They ought to re-engine 727s to be a cheap 2 engine airplane with the optional takeoff boost of the 3rd JT8 power engine. The AWABS update will be atrocious, nobody denies the multiple combinations of flap settings and number of engines used for takeoff will make a mess of paper in the cockpit. But we just need to learn to live with it.
