It would only be if I got turned down by SWA and FDX. The Asia contracts are great and the money is really strong, but it's hard to also run a small business. FDX or SWA gives you really strong money with the time off to run a business. Best of both worlds.

Diversifying your income stream is just smart for your family. Just because guys can make money and sustain a life outside of this airline, does not mean that they will give up on the airline or the pilots that they work with. Big difference.
I cannot tell you how many pilots have not had a back up and end up with a career ending medical issue. They and their family are in deep trouble. To respond to your assertion that I an "giving up" on this career, the answer is no. Heck I may run for rep again next fall. What I am doing is what any smart and prudent person would do, diversify. I had it when I lived in DFW, sold it because I wanted to be a hands on owner, and now am in a position to be a SB Owner once again. There are many here that are looking to leave DAL, that is a fact. That fact and reality has happened recently, and it has not gone unnoticed by the leadership. Don't worry, I will still be pain in everyone's side here at DAL. I rarely do anything without giving my all. |

Hey quick question if anyone knows, anti-ice or de-ice on the Convairs, what did they use? I don't see boots and wiki doesn't have a whole lot of info. I'm assuming heated leading edges, but even on the pistons?

OK........... After reading some of the posts from yesterday I have to ask. The vibe I'm getting after reading them is that there are a good bit of guys that feel that they should have possibly gone somewhere else (namely Southwest or Fedex). I'm on the outside looking in but I have been working on finishing my college degree over the last few years working towards possibly trying to get on at Delta. Now I totally understand that no job is perfect no matter what. I'm wondering that if DAL had a contract close to what SWA has would that make "most" guys happy? I understand that the airline has shrunk over the years and no one likes that at all. I have to believe that Management would rather fill one 170+ seat airplane than several RJ's. I may be totally off here. I'm trying to figure out what it is that would make this the place that most want to retire from.
I know that I'm opening up a can of worms with this but I'd like to know what most think. Sorry.. I'd like to hold on to my Delta seniority number just in case. But, if we start furloughing I'm going to try to get hired and go out on leave before they reach my number. We've got some guys who did that and are having a merry time at JetBlue and other carriers where they were able to get in the door early, then the airline grew. Looking at our seniority list, it is easy to become the green eyed monster. Especially looking at those who are out on leave making a good military or JetBlue career, who will return to Delta when they can hold wide body Captain. IMHO, they were smarter, or luckier, than the rest of us. |
I've been bidding reserve, on purpose, for way too long. I screwed up and got a line next month. When can we start picking up open time for October? I tried just now and the icon to pick up a trip is not on the screen. I've checked out the dalpa library and the dlnet scheduling stuff and can't find a thing.
Thank, Hoser |

We'll be rich. Or the next restaurant on Restaurant Impossible, the show that helps idiots who started or inherited a restaurant and had no idea what they were doing. Most of the time they serve "authentic" Italian. It always cracks me up that these people start a business they've never worked in. They have a passion for cooking! So? I mean would anyone here start an airline knowing everything you know? Yes. I would. If it was a pay for departure regional airline- what a gold mine! But after what I've seen, any SB I'd get into would be one I really love because frankly I've seen too many people work their tails off to lose just about everything.

Mostly the kind that don't require employees and are mostly cash. |

The issue with filling a 170 seat airplane vs several RJs, is another complex one. Sure, mgmt would prefer to fill a 170 seat airplane, but not if we're only flying that route once a day with it. Business travelers need many flights a day, so mgmt actually prefers (and something called the S-curve supports that) several departures spread around the day.

A secondary issue is that Delta has bought all these RJs and they are on long term contracts. We can't get rid of them immediately, even if they aren't profitable, so they have to be used for something. We are cutting back, but we still have a lot.
I mean when you wonder how good is Delta Con for Delta Air Lines, and therein us, you have to ask yourself how many CRJ-200s would this airline have if they were in house right now? |
