Really T, usually I enjoy your posts, you must not have had your coffee yet...

SWAPA is nobody's friend except SWAPA's. But fine, read about how much money they make and all that crapola while watching from afar while they absolutely screw another group with a big fat smile on their faces.

I agree though it sounds like we are getting something extra but I feel reality is different. SWA does not charge for bags for now (airtran still does and I bet SWA will bite the bullet and assume that little tid bit) but SWA also is not any cheaper than many airlines. Multiple stops, higher fares that one cant compare on the open market without a lot of work. SWA just appears to be cheaper and on the higher road of not charging for bags. But they are not stupid they make money for a reason, by forcing the traveler through their well thought out revenue system. As they get away from their system (al la ATL and angry airtran employees) they may just have to start charging for bags too.

They aren't stupid, but SWA didn't make much money in the latest quarter. They made such a big deal about not taking money for bags, and now they probably wish they had kept their mouths shut. People will pay for it, and they are fees, not taxable because they are in addition to the ticket, which is heavily taxed. As far as SWA goes in the future, I'm sure they will try to continue their same strategies, but they have grandiose plans of Hawaii flying, and maybe onward to something farther, which may take them away from their comfort zone. They also are trying to figure out if they want those 717s, which has gone against their single fleet strategy. Add to that the employee group is getting older (longevity), and more expensive. It won't always be easy for them, and they don't have the hedging advantage they used to OWN, and control the market. It's gone.

Yeah I am too, but I'm into Mayan calendars and such so it's easy to be confused. Looking at a period from March 2012-April 2013 in Travelnet, it shows a code share flight doing SEA-CDG.

They are using those on the MAN route which was always thinner, but also on a newer Glasgow route. Put in VIR72 in the upper left box on Flightaware.com and see the latest flight there. There is still at least one Virgin 744 going to LGW per day from MCO, but they have also moved some of them to the Caribbean flying for the Winter.

Ah, OK.. thanks. I thought maybe it could be a mid-week kind of thing, but I thought it very interesting that I cannot remember ever seeing anything other than Virgin whales here. Could have been time of day too.. anyway, thanks for the info.

Maybe a little bit, but probably not enough to matter. Have they cancelled their season yet? They gotta settle this thing, or Kris Humphries may be hanging at a soup line somewhere. (I cannot believe that I even know THAT much about pop culture)

I guess they can still afford that non-taxable revenue to be left on the table.. Besides, if you get a AMEX card, bags are free on DAL too.

I may be wrong, but I believe we have a contract to fly the NBA teams wether we actually fly the trips or not. It is part of the expense for the lockout. It may be a good deal for Delta to get paid for trips we don't actually fly. Anybody else know more?

I would figure there is some sort of a minimum retainer that the NBA pays for DL to keep the aircraft outfitted and available. They are canceling games about 3 to 4 weeks out so the flights may very well be scheduled as to ensure availability.
