Ok I asked this earlier, but now that it is getting close to the date I want to resubmit my question.
I currently have Diamond HSA because I was single and enjoyed the tax break along with the cheap price. Now I am married and hope to have a child in the next year. Does anyone suggest staying with Diamond or going to the Gold HRA? I watched the Open Enrollment video and it confused me more. The examples they had were not that great. Seems with the anticipated doctors visits I'd quickly hit my high deductible in the HSA and then be covered 100% but not sure. PMS are welcome as well to not clutter the board, thanks. |
I've been in the Diamond HSA since it started and like it. Yeah, it has a high deductible but it gives you peace of mind that, after that deductible, you're covered at 100% in network. With the family, I've met either the individual or family deductible for most years. If you end up with a lot of expensive prescriptions it's very easy to meet the deductible. As you probably already know, you can use whatever money you put into the HSA (pretax) to cover the deductible expenses. YMMV

Tread carefully. The HSA is now 90/10 after you meet the high deductible. If you have a baby with no complications and maybe one more medium sized event, plus the associated colds etc (all in network) the two plans will probably be a wash. I have 2 kids and a wife that is quick to pull the doctor trigger. The Gold works better for me. YMMV Hope this helps. R1 |

I think each day is still worth the same. There is probably some complicated formula, but your guarantee isn't 70, it's 70-(vacation days * 3). The rest is paid with vacation days. So take the new guarantee and divide it by the number of on-call days, etc etc. I think that's how it works.

Something to keep in mind too, the younger a kid is, the more you are going to be at the pediatrician, what with well checks, required shots, and every germ they come in contact with for the first time it seems. |

Gotta go with R1. Go with the Gold. If you have younger kids, you can easily max out the deductible. I got 4, the oldest being 11. 3 are asthmatic, 1 is ADD. Drugs add up quick. In the last year, there were over 40 office visits including my wife and I. Plus 3 ED visits and 2 hospitalizations. I have to have some minor surgery next month. Now it's covered 100%.

Our kids just wasn't sick - we have only been to the doctor for something other than checkups once. (we're really lucky). That visit at the doctor cost us $57. If they are sick a lot, that would add up. |

Don't do it!!! just kidding, my wife and I had our first kid this year. It is by far the biggest life changing event EVER. Here is my 2 cents. We had the PPO in the past b/c it had no lifetime maximum limits. The only, and I stress only good thing about Obama care  is those lifetime maximum limits went away on the other plans. We are leaning toward the Diamond. I would seriously consider what your max out of pocket is for each plan. We had a C section and it was extremely expensive. Also, the hospital stay is longer b/c of surgery. Something else I didn't know was from the moment the baby is born, the insurance is separated cost wise. ie: new deductible & coinsurance to meet. In addition financially plan for complications... We had a scheduled C-section. But on the last dr. visit (while I was on a trip) the wife had the start of preeclampsia. Boom she was admitted to the hospital for monitoring the baby overnight and C-section occured a day early. Further, during pregnancy your wife will see the OB about monthly until the last 4-6weeks and then its weekly visits. The dr. will prescribe Prenatal vitamins and folic acid or you can get them at Costco. But if the dr. prescribes them on the diamond they go against the max out of pocket. Remember, once baby is born you get a special open enrollment...So for premiums right now only pay for an individual & spouse plan. When baby is born you just switch to paying the family premium during special open enrollment period. Also, think about a FSA and Daycare FSA if you need them. As others said dr. visits for baby once born seem to be often and at a minimum shots at 2months, 4months, 6months. If you have any questions about having a kid I have recent experience. Get ready for your wife and her emotional roller coaster of pregnancy. PS: I wouldn't trade my son for anything it is really cool having a family!!! PS#2: Our medical plans in general suck and need to be contractually improved dramatically |
Thread shift.....Sorry.....I get displaced to NYC starting in Jan., so with the displacement I figure we will move (Delta pays)and be able to drive to work for the first time in a while. We are looking at Lehigh Valley area in PA and East Stroudsburg PA, does anyone have an opinion about either of these areas? We have 4 kids so schools are important.
Thanks in advance for your response. I realized I asked for opinions and we are all pilots so of course we have a lot of opinions! |
Quick question guys.....I have misplaced (Hopefully not lost) my mini logbook I carry with me on trips. I started using it when I got hired here three years ago and since then got lazy and never transferred any of it into my actual logbook. Is there any place on icrew/deltanet that I can find my total time at Delta? I'm not looking for specific city pairs, night/day, approaches..etc......just a place where I can see my total time flown.
If not, does anyone know someone I can call to get this info? Thanks in advance for any info. |
