...also a father of trips. I thought I was the only one that had to duct tape diapers on my kids. Luckily it was long enough ago that I've forgotten most of the gory details. No more cleaning bottoms, just them cleaning out my wallet every chance they get.

Default Short Call

Easy one for you reserve ninjas. Does short call affect your RAW score? Also, for the ATL 88B's out there, how many trips am I going to have to fly this month? Weekends off, Christmas off.

Thanks in advance,

Razorback one

For those interested, Alaska had their first groundschool of the present hiring spree today. It was stated that a lot of growth is coming their way with around 300 new hires over the next three years. To give perspective they have around 1420 active pilots right now.

Front and back end deviations can both be booked on iCrew (both positive space). For some reason, front ends can only be booked on mainline; for offline front ends, you need to call skeds.

CAUTION: When I booked my front end flight through the scheduler she listed me on a regular pass, not positive space. I did not realize it until I showed up at the gate. Luckily, there were seats.

First, I'd love to hear where this growth is going to be. City pair wise.

Second, it's too bad we don't hear Delta talking about a 21% growth in hiring. That'd be equivalent to almost 2,600 pilots being hired in the next three years to bring out list to nearly 15,000 if nobody left. That'd be almost 900 a year. Now I don't know how much of that is to take care of retirements, but I bet "growth" plus "hiring 21%" is not entirely for retirements.

For ATL 88 B, I think if you're 79-80% or so you'll probably get Christmas day off on reserve. I believe I've seen at times 90% get weekends off throughout the year but I'm not 100% sure of that and I wouldn't look at December results as normal.

And no SC right now has nothing to do with your RAW, but come February 2012 that will change in accordance with LOA 29 (unless something else changed that I don't know about)

This is the LOA 29 addition to the PWA that adds SC to RAW scores:

A. Amend Sections 2 A. 208. and 23 A. 35. to read:
208. “Reserve assignment weighting” (RAW) means a value assigned to a reserve
pilot that is based on his accumulated credit in a bid period, his CROC days in
- 2 -
a bid period, and his number of short call credits in a bid period. A reserve
pilot’s RAW is used as part of the process of sequencing him for assignment
to open time. Such value will be calculated using the following formula,
rounded to the nearest integer:
Reserve assignment weighting = [(A  C) x 75] + [(B  D) x 100] + (E x 5),
where:
A = …
.
.
E = the number of short call periods for which the pilot has been credited in
the bid period.

If I fly on Christmas, in honor of Christmas Story, I'm going to a Chinese buffet.
