I'm based in ATL, bid weekends and holidays off and haven't flown in 6 weeks (unless you count CQ). M88B for the record, and God bless the poor Captain scheduling unleashes me on..

How do you start this thing?

Non-Rev priority question.
Where do you find how priority is assigned on the stand by passenger list? I'm always seeing AS, EV, and DS above me in listings. |

Yup, slugg'en through the LOD with the VOL II Controls and indicators section on the o'l iPad. Slow going but I also got the "what's it doing now" game in the LMS working and that is helping.
I'll be ready, but the company's position that the memory stick course is enough to pass the test is BS. You seem to have a handle on this, so I'll address this to you, even though I'm on a different fleet. My conversion from the DC-9 to the MD-88 bid category is APR. My question is: Is the LOD THE THING that I need, and am expected to have 'wired', when I arrive at the school house. Or, is there some 'ALSO' required? Any -88 guys, feel free to chime in. Got my box of training materials a few days ago....the CD test in the box, is that the same test/questions we'll see on the eVal test? Mucho Gacias, Chuck |

The FCTM has good to know, interesting stuff. |

Mucho Gacias, Chuck As Bar said, use that test eval CD over and over for your limitations and memory items. Still read all of the limitations though but concentrate on that cd. I know it's not a lot but its the part you have to nail. Without looking at the syllabus, I believe your oral is still in the middle of the 100 series which has nothing to do with the oral. If that's still right, you may be frustrated trying to do flows and procedures and prepping for the oral simultaneously. So, it's best to get the LOD down prior to the 100 series. Just is what it is. The LOD is easier to study if you can open VOL 2 and look at the front of each chapter where it details what the switches in the cockpit do. You'll find that's a majority of the LOD questions - what does this switch do? It sounds simple but studying the LOD without looking at the switch makes little sense for those of us who need something to associate to correlate it. Unless they've added pictures to the LOD, I don't think they've done that. Not sure. After that, if you want to learn "all things windshear" for instance you'll find you need to look at VOL 1 supplemental on how to test the system, VOL 2 on the logic of the system, AM on weather stuff, FCTM on how to fly it, FOM on company rules concerning adverse weather and QRH on more procedures. Ridiculous to the nth degree. Last big suggestion, watch the walk around CD or online. And everything they show you ask yourself- what is that, what does it do and when does it work? For instance strakes or the ram air inlet, what is it? what is it for? when does it work? How is it heated? Etc. Do that for the internal and external slides. Works for CQ. I always get asked questions and it's just nice when you hit it out of the park then go... oh, well, we never use that (which is true but...) |

I am very much like you, I have always overprepared for training. But guys like you and me are the problem. Until we all do the required training, then show up and let the chips fall where they may, the company will train like this. They build the courses based on the guys who willl do their own course of study, on their own time and own dime.
But, after I went through the memory stick for the second time (about a month or so between exposures) and took the practice eval, it dawned on me that there are items on the test that I don't recall being on the memory stick. So, I guess my point is, I think they shortened down the memory stick course so they would have to pay us even less. LOD study money I'm sure was laughed at. Your so right though, if we had less self pride we'd just do what they pay us for and let the chips land where they will. Ferd PS The Flash Cards are back (a power point presentation so no Mac) and REALLY good stuff. |

Exactly!! When I did the runtime test, HH at the training committee was meeting with the company training guys trying to get more money for us to do the LOD, since we were sure the memory stick course wasn't enough to pass the test.
