Ridiculous to the nth degree.

You mean Comair isn't alone with windshear rules all over the place?

I don't know whether I should be relieved or I should just abandon all hope...

They were in the fleet training section (not the LMS). Click on the airplane, then top column on the left near the bottom has the training link and then they were in there.

What are you going to? The 88?

PS

The flashcards are working on my iPad. You cant skip from one system to another, you can only scroll through the entire package one slide at a time..........but its great stuff!

My answer got a little long, so I sent you a PM.

Hi Ferd,
You seem to have a handle on this, so I'll address this to you, even though I'm on a different fleet. My conversion from the DC-9 to the MD-88 bid category is APR. My question is: Is the LOD THE THING that I need, and am expected to have 'wired', when I arrive at the school house. Or, is there some 'ALSO' required? Any -88 guys, feel free to chime in. Got my box of training materials a few days ago....the CD test in the box, is that the same test/questions we'll see on the eVal test?

I went from the -9 to the -88 a while back. My impressions:

I remember wondering why we did not offer a "short course" or a differences course for people going from the -9 to the -88. Now I'm glad they did not. Although it is the same type aircraft, it is operated entirely differently. My experience on the -9 only provided a lot of negative learning transfer. Thanks to some carefully and steadily applied Woodford-induced amnesia, I was able to overcome this handicap and do just fine.

The LOD, in my opinion, is worth it's weight in gold. Not only is it densely packed with info, but it represents the "tone" and the scope of your expected knowledge very well. By reading it, you can determine that you will not be asked any ridiculous trivia questions (you know: "How many blades on the heat exchanger fans?" and such) It made my study far more efficient.

Having the Vol II out with the controls and indicators is a great suggestion, as everything was very operationally oriented. The only thing that I found to be a little trivial was the walk-around slides, but you can review those in 5 minutes and ace the whole thing. (TANGENT: Every training program at every airline I have worked for included an unhealthy obsession with the holes on the tail of the aircraft. I find this curious):p

When I went through a couple years ago, we had some pretty new DGS instructors for the procedures trainers. I'm hoping they have improved.

The sim instructors, however, were excellent. Not only did they all have boatloads of experience on the airplane, but they were also very good at providing instruction. You'll have a different instructor every day, however, and the record-keeping is minimal. So, if you are having trouble with something, bring it up, because they won't know if you don't tell 'em. I can say that they were a great bunch of guys and I thoroughly enjoyed the sim.

I DID NOT show up knowing all the flows, callouts, and procedures. The course was long enough that I just did it one bite at a time, and it worked out just fine. Some guys like to show up "checkride ready". When I have tried this in the past, I always found that I wasted a lot of energy on things that I could have learned much more quickly "in situ". Could be just me.

I quickly fell into this routine: (1) Study the syllabus for the next day's lesson, referencing the FCTM as needed. (2) Review the LOD for the systems highlighted in that lesson. (3) Apply Woodford Reserve to erase habits picked up on the -9. (4) Repeat individual steps as needed.

It worked for me. Good luck and have fun.

The delta instructor guide student version is very helpful as well on what to study for the next day's activities. You can find this as well on the fleet page under training materials.

I wonder if she was on "Say Yes To The Dress"? I have four daughters, so I can be forgiven for knowing that that show exists.

They must have some funny lights on that bride.

For a second there, that dress looked like it was white.

The latest posts here remind me of being in KBP, and waking down by St Andrew's Cathedral and there was a wedding party on the way out. The bride was wearing a mid thigh red.. and I mean RED wedding dress.. high heels... stunning. Some would consider it slutty, but in KBP.. it just worked... Damn I miss eastern Europe..

I agree with not being concerned about the walk around stuff til later in training, like near the end. They're easy hereof handled correctly a deep system question can come from a simple picture that will require more than rote memorization of the LOD but at the same time be straight from the LOD. Review it to see what's there but take a moment and think how that whatever relates so your answer is as quick as a Ferd.

WN just substituted all of their -700 orders (23) for 2013 to 737-800.

Then in 2014 it will take more -700 than planned, a total of 35.

You figure out why I post this here...

Cheers
