That is a requirement of the new 1500 hr rule. It is discussed in the Trim Tab as well.

I firmly believe the decline in seniority will continue for the next half decade. With only 517 retirements between now and 2017 (yes it picks up after that) there is really no future for advancement. Also, the continued adjustments in flying has given many opportunities to FNW guys to move into bases that they prefer such as your base SLC as well as ATL and LAX. Hence, the continued rise in seniority in those base and the dramatic decline in seniority in MSP and DTW.

I realize that every body says thousands of Capt's will retire early but that has not happened up until now. It is simply to easy for them to stay and fly. I generally ask Capt's if they think they will stay until 65. The vast majority say that they would like to retire early but since they lost their pensions that is not really feasible. Also, they openly admit being senior for an
additional half decade has been pretty nice. On a side note I recently talked to someone who would be involved in future hiring at Delta about the Capt's staying and he readily admitted guys were staying much longer than was originally anticipated.

As far as FNW guys moving to DL bases I'm sure that someone on here will
tell me that thousands of south guys have moved to north bases and truthfully I cannot refute that, but what I do know is that I am extremely senior overall in MSP and DTW and continue to get more senior in each of those bases. While I continue to get more junior in ATL, SLC, and LAX. But what can I say I'm probably wrong and am misinterpreting the seniority reshuffle that is taking place.

Good luck Roadkill I think you were lucky to miss most of the turmoil while you were on long term Mil leave.

How does your seniority look in MEM? Since your comparing.

In case you guys haven't figured it out, no one is retiring until they are forced to (other than a very few exceptions). The company is not replacing all the guys that leave. We will not have real movement until 2017. I've accepted it. There's no sense in complaining about it. There's nothing we an do about it.

How does the company handle a reinstatement to a category if you are in training on your MD equipment, still current on the previous, and have not yet converted?

So age 60 voodoo dolls stuck with pins wont work?

Get the captain drunk and lie to him about pickup and drop a hint to the TSA wont work?

Borrow his computer on a layover and then call the FBI?

Make him walk from Spondivits to the hotel at 2am drunk with a pocket full of $20 bills?

Get Carl and Tsquare **** drunk and lock them in a room together and see if we gain one or two numbers?

Any other ideas?:D

I somewhat disagree with your prediction on retirements. Not all pilots are going to fly to 65, can't happen, never will. Some leave because they can, some because they can't get a medical.
If I assume all pilots retire at 63(which I assume is realistic), the crystal ball says the retirements senior to me(I'm at 60%) the next 1-4 years will be 124, 128,213 and 265.
Many of these guys are wide body guys that will cause a cascade of training when they head out the door.
Just my thoughts.

My idea is to just let them work until 65. Most of them will be dead before they turn 75. The joke is on them. Every year they work, they take years off the end of their lives. I come from an airline background. Most of the retired pilots that I know are dying well younger than the national average, and these are the guys that retired at 60.

Maybe they are unselfish in that they hope to leave as much money as posible to their heirs.
Sounds like you have personal relationships with a number of retired guys. Good for you.

The numbers disagree with you. We've lost 618 pilots from 2009 - 2011, or roughly 200 per year.
