i think on my 737 ride tonight the entire NYC FA crew was under 25, competent and photogenic.
I don't think any of my FA's this past week on my Song trip had children under 25. |

Average Retirement Age
With the Age 60 rule the average retirement age was around 57.5. There are a number of guys who go out on disability (various medical problems that won't allow them to pass a Class 1). We can expect the same thing to be true of the Age 65 rule - the average age of retirees will be around 62 - there will be quite a few guys that try to fly to 65 that won't make.

How does the company handle a reinstatement to a category if you are in training on your MD equipment, still current on the previous, and have not yet converted?

My idea is to just let them work until 65. Most of them will be dead before they turn 75. The joke is on them. Every year they work, they take years off the end of their lives. I come from an airline background. Most of the retired pilots that I know are dying well younger than the national average, and these are the guys that retired at 60.
All of these guys that get an extra five years(maybe more) in the left seat need it. They had a pension and no real retirement savings vehicle here at DAL before it was terminated. Many assumed they had a pension and when it was terminated they needed at least another then years to get anywhere close to enough money to retire. They hate being here too,but are happy they get their five years in a left seat while you get your in the right. It is what it is. Stop this junior v senior bs. 42% pay cut Loss of pension Loss of work rules Loss of vacation Loss of sick time Working at least 30 more block hrs a year Need I go on? They are not staying here to screw you or I, they are here to avoid the Walmart greeters job. When you are there age you too will be doing everything in your power to work until retirement age too. So will I. It is a math game and no more. We would all retire tomorrow if we could. |

Btw don't get me wrong, if the rule is 65, have at it. It's the rule. but if we're going to be consistent, why not have made it retroactive? As in forced carriers to take back their over 60 but under 65 at their previous seniority? And why not age 67 if it is truly a financial issue? And if an FAA medical is good enough, why does alpa fight age 60+ related age testing? |

I agree, retirement planning is not an individual's responsibility. When my social security check doesnt show up 30 years from now ill be asking your grand kids to feed me instead because "i was counting on that".
