All of these guys that get an extra five years(maybe more) in the left seat need it. They had a pension and no real retirement savings vehicle here at DAL before it was terminated. Many assumed they had a pension and when it was terminated they needed at least another then years to get anywhere close to enough money to retire. They hate being here too,but are happy they get their five years in a left seat while you get your in the right. It is what it is. Stop this junior v senior bs.

42% pay cut

Loss of pension

Loss of work rules

Loss of vacation

Loss of sick time

Working at least 30 more block hrs a year

Need I go on? They are not staying here to screw you or I, they are here to avoid the Walmart greeters job.

When you are there age you too will be doing everything in your power to work until retirement age too. So will I. It is a math game and no more. We would all retire tomorrow if we could.

Great post. I was with you 100% until that last sentence. Not true for me... If I won the lottery tomorrow, I would not retire. I'd still be advocating just as strongly for restoration... because I do not compromise principles. But I still really enjoy flying and look forward to going to work. If I won that lottery I might drop a few trips though... :D

How true Carl!! I am always smiling when I see my Seniority number getting smaller, but then I get that queasy feeling when I notice that the bottom is getting closer faster than the top! Real AE's will be great when they do come. For piece of mind we just have to be optimistic and stay focused on this contract, it is career critical.

The company already has the ability to add Three 76 seat jets for every One mainline jet above a certain "floor".

That is the first thing that needs to be changed in our section 1.

No, the first thing that needs to be changed is that all limits on any aircraft are removed and Delta obtains whatever aircraft it wants in whatever number it wants...as long as a pilot from the Delta seniority list flies it.

Demand that Delta's future acquisitions are flown by us.

Great post Bar.

We just recently heard again the Embraer E190 sucks.

But somehow the E175 doesn't? I bet if our scope didn't allow the E175 at Delta Connection then it'd suck too. I bet if our scope allowed the E190 at DCI then it wouldn't suck anymore.

Really, the only thing that makes the E190 suck is us flying it.

It doesn't seem to offend folks that if GoJet wants to fly a 76 seater, well, have it. But if Delta pilots want too, no way.

AMAZING!

I've flown in the back of a jetBlue E-190; it was very comfortable, no middle seats. I can't speak to the CASM, though.

As was previously answered - Yes but there are also some important details to consider. The number is posted on the bid packet and is available on your time card - usually around 72-75 hours.

If you are within 5 hours of this time you can take 5 hours from your bank and still get all of the GS at 100%.

But if you are below even that, then only the portion above the GS trigger will pay double.

Example: Your GS Credit is 68 hours and the trigger is 75. You get a 10 hour GS. Being a wise man you take 5 hours from your bank. Now your GS credit is 73 hour so you get straight pay for two hours and double pay for the remaining 8 hours of your GS.

Or you can try to WS something to go over the trigger without using your bank at all.

Sick leave and training count toward the GS trigger. :) MIL LV and Personal Drops will ussually take you out of the GS hunt for that month.

I firmly believe the decline in seniority will continue for the next half decade. With only 517 retirements between now and 2017 (yes it picks up after that) there is really no future for advancement. Also, the continued adjustments in flying has given many opportunities to FNW guys to move into bases that they prefer such as your base SLC as well as ATL and LAX. Hence, the continued rise in seniority in those base and the dramatic decline in seniority in MSP and DTW.

I realize that every body says thousands of Capt's will retire early but that has not happened up until now. It is simply to easy for them to stay and fly. I generally ask Capt's if they think they will stay until 65. The vast majority say that they would like to retire early but since they lost their pensions that is not really feasible. Also, they openly admit being senior for an additional half decade has been pretty nice. On a side note I recently talked to someone who would be involved in future hiring at Delta about the Capt's staying and he readily admitted guys were staying much longer than was originally anticipated.

As far as FNW guys moving to DL bases I'm sure that someone on here will tell me that thousands of south guys have moved to north bases and truthfully I cannot refute that, but what I do know is that I am extremely senior overall in MSP and DTW and continue to get more senior in each of those bases. While I continue to get more junior in ATL, SLC, and LAX. But what can I say I'm probably wrong and am misinterpreting the seniority reshuffle that is taking place.

Good luck Roadkill I think you were lucky to miss most of the turmoil while you were on long term Mil leave.

Care to share which equipment your "extremely senior" on in MSP? With the A-330s and DC-9s flushed to ATL along with a lot of positions, I guess I'm seeing MSP becoming more senior while guys are being MD'd to ATL...

Not saying MSP is more senior than ATL, just don't see the "dramatic decline" of seniority in MSP.

I agree. MSP is becoming more senior. I'm a 2008 hire and my classmates based there continue to slide backwards. If I were still on my former category in DTW, this would be the 3rd AE in a row with backwards movement.
