Common sense

Along with most of my buddies, I was MD'd off the 73N on the last AE....difference is, I'm not even going to finish consolodation before going to 320 school....and I'll have 5 months left til mandatory retirement.

So, I write a long-winded letter to Crew Resources asking to stay in category my last few months, and offer to take the MD lower payrate. You guessed it, no way.....theyd rather lose the 73N money already spent on me, and never recoup the 320 bucks they're going to spend.......I am a unionist, and I support our PWA, but really ?...really ?

Regards,
BG

I agree, that is stupid. But they will tell you that ALPA is making them do it:rolleyes:

It does look really dumb but on the flip side it's better than seat locks that get extended over and over as decisions are made to keep the aircraft longer than planned. That's the only reason why I think it's a good thing, even if it does look really dumb.

These Directv commercials mirror these little children books that go "when you allow XYZ, then ABC happens, if ABC happens then DEF happens, if DEF happens then GHI happens..." and so on til you hit a ridiculous and humorous outcome.

Hmmmm. It's a great formula for some fun on this site. :D

Here is a follow up question about airlineapps.com...When I originally applied about a year ago I did the free membership because I intended to apply to Delta only. I still only use the website for my Delta app and that free membership is about to expire. My options are sign up for the paid membership and keep my app active, or don't pay and re-submit a new application when mine expires. What are the advantages to doing the paid membership other than not having to type in all of my info again (probably worth the fee)? When Delta starts hiring again, will they give any consideration to how long you've had your app on file? I don't have any major profile updates other than flight time. Thanks to anyone who can offer some advice.

You really don't want individual pilots cutting deals with the company. In the end everyone is better served if the contract is followed. What you essentially said was I would like to stay in my category and am willing to fly the aircraft for less then my fellow pilots. You are bidding your pay rate.
You also create a issue that you might be senior to other pilots in the category. Your could be taking flying that belongs to them. Someone might very well file a grievance and the company is sure to loose. Neither the company or ALPA want to go down this route.
The company does have some contractual options to bypass pilots moving up with limited time left. I don't however believe any of those options apply to moving down. There were only 6 mandatory displacements off the 73N in the last bid. There were not a huge number of pilots involved.

I have heard that they can see exactly how long your app as been on file and how often and when you updated it. I also heard some airlines (nothing specifically about Delta) see that you have had it in for awhile and it shows interest in them, so they take it into consideration. As far as Delta goes I have no idea if they if they look at how long it has been on file. This is complete speculation, but I would think it would look better to show you applied before they announced hiring, and then you don't look like someone jumping on the bandwagon, but I only speculate that because that is what I would think if I were on a hiring committee. So I really don't have an answer to your question except that I have heard it matters to some airlines, but I don't know which ones.

Apparently not at Delta, or a subsidiary.

Whoever said it was a Starfleet recruiting snow job is correct ... THAT guy's running a Linux software company now.

where do you get this stuff? There is no plan to close the ATL 777 base.
