If you live 5 minutes from the airport you get more money doing SC allow guys like me to stay and not worry about having a couple of brews at dinner.....

Just sayin...

They would have to pay me a whole lot more than an extra 5 hrs to be on SC all month.

If you eliminate all of the lines that are less than, say, 70 hours, you'd be surprised how the average changes, especially when a LOT of lines that PBS generates are less than 70.

Nu

I'll buy that - it's amazing what you can do with numbers if you want to tell a certain story. If you've ever taken any stat courses you need to see all the numbers and inputs to judge the final product so who knows. I've had a number of months when I've had lines less than 70 and I'm not big on picking up extra time (I'm lucky with a full Mil pension).

So say that Delta does acquire AMR. Do we the bottom of the list guys have to worry about furlough? What happens to the AMR pilots? Anyone care to throw out an educated guess? Bar? FTB?

Cni,

To the best of my knowledge, this is still way too far out to calculate and I think a "merger" is unlikely. Second hand reports from the LCA are that even with further transatlantic capacity cuts we are likely to ramp up hiring towards the end of 2012.

How is the average line pilot getting 85 hours of pay a month with our rules. ALVs in the 70s, not a whole lot of open time, working 15+ days a month just to hit ALV (at least with the trips out west). Now if we had SWA rules with 6.0 hours min credit/DAY (means only 12 days of work for 72 hours) I could certainly see earning a lot more. Not to mention how do you make up for only 3:15/day of vacation/training. When I was hired I was told you could figure your pay by multiplying your pay rate by 1000 (in other words 1000 credit hours/year). BUT, that was back in the line of time days, trips touching for vacation (one week of vacation could turn in to three weeks off and could then pick up even more money if you wanted by picking up some more trips). Would love to know where the average line pilot is getting 85 hours (certainly not in the LAX base).

Sorry to join the discussion late, but some pilots ran up some big numbers last year with GSs and high credit/deadhead trips. I had one month over 200 pay hours (on 75 hours of block)

One benefit of extra pay for SC would be to encourage crew scheduling to only put on SC the number they realistically need.

A few years back, they were putting 12 a day on SC on the 767-400, with a res req of 4. When I asked the head of scheduling about it , he said "because we can".

Make them pay

Now now, non sexual and funny and it had an airplane. And yes you can show a white butt on prime time tv, see below:

But I will hand it to the guy for taking on the OWS folks in person in defense of capitalism. ? He's found a niche though.

I think there a bigger fights to fight; fights that would have support from more of the pilot group. This, I'm afraid doesn't pass muster in the regard. I do like the RAW score credit for SC, though.

If we had an SC and LC lines to bid I would bid LC even though I live in ATL. I don't live close enough to do SC perpetually. I'd suspect many would do that as well. Now for 10 hours more a month I may consider it but I wouldn't do it all the time.

I do look forward to raw score for SC as well and for commuters I see that as an enormous improvement, you get credit for having commuted in to in many cases do nothing.
