Not entirely true. A junior line on the 7er in NYC consists of uncommutable 10.5 hour 3 day, 2 leg trans cons. Either that or all Mexico City 2 days which are also early departure and late arrival. I'll take reserve over that any month.

True, but if the Reserve system entices one senior person to move into Reserve, then one low-seniority pilot gets to improve their bidding position, for a line, by one number. His point stands.

Then again, I also see your point: it's all sort of degrees of crap, in the bottom 25% of lines for the NYC 7ER.

Since you're comparing reductions between mainline and DCI, it may be helpful to compare orders as well, for more clarity. How many orders for DCI jets?

They are at the 255 max, unless they start getting Dash 8 Q 400's.

FYI only. Delta has over 120 aircraft on order and another 30 on option that are scheduled to come on line over the next 6 years (737-900 and MD-90). DCI has 1. Delta is about 60 aircraft smaller than at the merger. DCI is over 100 aircraft smaller.

While it is great that we are getting new airplanes, they have zero growth for our airline. As it stands now, they are a one for one replacement, and unfortunately, they are replacing a sizable number of larger paying equipment. :(

Wow, 51 minutes. They must've gotten excited half way through.

I can't believe no one has quoted this. I'm still laughing from when I saw this on my phone on the employee bus earlier today.

That was in my original answer, bolded below:

Bingo. Very soon, the 747/777 aircraft and rates will shrink considerably. Soon average CA rates will go from $190/hr to $160/hr with the introduction of the 737-900s.
Someone's been attending Penn and Teller's "Sleight of Hand" symposium.

NWA had ordered the 787 as a hedge against Japan "open skies" making Narita economically obsolete. They learned from Delta management's experience when the 1996 German open skies killed Frankfurt in 1997. The hubs were quite similar...slot and environmental controlled, using just over 300 slots per week and served from 9 US origin markets with 17 beyond destinations. Japan "open skies" really aren't, but there is room for only two alliance partners there. All Nipon is with Star, and JAL is with oneworld. As long as Haneda access is somewhat restricted NRT will do OK. If Haneda ever truly opens and Delta doesn't get a significant slot and gate portfolio, NRT will be like LHR vs LGW. It will become the discount and secondary destination airport.

Or unless Delta buys someone who has an agreement with someone to fly Q 400s. Like Horizon. (who by the way, just got rid of all their CRJ700s last year).

No one wants "demerits" or a ban. Great flying - that's a wide dme arc! :D
