Why the DC-9 is staying:

From Boeing's 10-K filing
On May 2, 2011, Southwest Airlines Co. (Southwest) completed its acquisition of AirTran Holdings, Inc., and AirTran Holdings, Inc. became a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwest. As disclosed in Item 8. Financial Statements, Note 15 – Concentrations, AirTran Holdings, LLC (AirTran), the successor to AirTran Holdings Inc, together with its subsidiaries, is our largest customer in terms of revenue and portfolio carrying value. In the fourth quarter of 2011 we revised the contractual terms of our leases with AirTran in conjunction with a full guarantee from Southwest of those lease payment obligations. Revenue and earnings are expected to be approximately $30 million lower in 2012 due to these lease revisions.
That represent a nearly 10% reduction in annual aircraft lease payments for the combined Souhtwest/Airtran fleet.
With the reduced lease rates the 717 got another stay of execution at WN...

Cheers
George

And for the lotto win, how many slots will I move down in category? Whoever guesses closest gets free beers whenever they run across me. No really.

I'll take a shot with a 777 DTW dart. There are a number of pilots who live in ATL who commute to DTW to fly. A number of these pilots have been interested in bidding back to ATL, but have not been able to.

My prediction: DTW 777 FOs will bid to ATL 777 and A 330. Additionally, VDs from DTW 777B went senior on the last bid - further demonstrating the pent up desire to bid out. IOW, my guess is that none of them will bid the 88, half of the FOs can hold the 73n, 320, 767, 7er, 330 and 777 left seat.

FTB, here's your chance to be an 88A.

Again, regardless of whether management would have, or would not have, merged the airlines, the MEC spoke its intentions via recorded votes.

Delta has bought the airplanes that ALPA has allowed to be outsourced.

The vote was at the ALPA Board of Director's meeting October, 2000, on the 15th I believe. As for the second part of your statement, what say you on Bil Swelbar's article which recounts the same history? You call it "conspiracy" but it is just pattern bargaining. On Friday, October 9, 2009, the Delta MEC (after a series of re-writes) chose the verbiage to "restructure" Compass outside of the Delta MEC. The vote went along pre-merger lines and was the first split vote of our MEC if I am not mistaken.

This isn't about you (as far as I know). You personalized it. The NWA scope section and their negotiations are part of our contract. You and I agree, NWA set up Compass in a very flawed form and my allegation is that they did it for the exact same reasons we outsourced small jet flying here (and at United for that matter).

As for Delta's negotiation notes, they were subpoenaed by Counsel for the Comair and ASA pilots in their class action suit (which I refused to join). However, I did read nearly everything they posted on their web site including the depositions which reviewed these negotiators' notes. Since you seem to enjoy challenges, I'll ask again, you want me to see if I can get that atty to give us a copy?

If someone reads my post and thinks a bomb is aimed at any one individual, then they are the one with the problem. I have no clue who you are.
So once again, more obfuscation. The Delta MEC did not vote to "divest" anyone. They voted to have Compass pilots represent Compass pilots and not pilots from another airline.

The Delta MEC did not vote to oppose a merger with Comair or ASA. The ALPA Executive Board was asked to initiate a Merger Policy Implementation Date when THERE WAS NO MERGER. There is a reason why there is no PID between Delta and United or Pinnacle or FEDEX or any other airline. That is because there is no merger. Now the Comair and ASA MEC's somehow invented a merger out of thin air and then asked the rest of the world to sign on to this fantasy. It should not have been a surprise to anyone that you don't start merging seniority lists when companies have not been merged. So the Delta MEC did not take one step to stop any merger with Comair and ASA. They simply did not support starting up merger policy with no merger. I don't run the fire checklist unless I am actually on fire.

I know you didn't get your way with the Compass vote, but it simply was an unworkable concept. I don't understand how this was ever set up and the only possible solution was to have Compass pilots represent Compass pilots. The idea that a bunch of pilots would negotiate a contract for another group of pilots is not logical. Why shouldn't Compass pilots represent themselves? Again, you are confused that pilots can initiate mergers when in fact the company Board of Directors makes that choice.

Swelbar is an anti union hack that thinks we are all overpaid bus drivers. What exactly do I need to learn from him?

If you want to discuss the negotiator notes then produce the original documents. What I don't agree with is you making veiled references to skullduggery with no specifics nor any way to tell if you are just making things up. It is tabloid smear tactics. How can anyone respond when you just throw out stuff like that? The RJDC lost that suit in every possible way, so I can't see how there are a lot of smoking guns in those documents.

I did not say you were attacking me. You called people liars and you made a bunch of statements about the union that are patently false. You try to make some separation between your statements and the people they libel but you are just trying to wriggle out of taking responsibility for your attacks.

You have been predicting doom and gloom for yourself ever since the merger was announced. Seriously, you have predicted your imminent furlough multiple times. Periodically, you get yourself so worked up that you start lashing out. I am sorry you feel angst, but it is no excuse to libel people either as individuals or a group. Don't make stuff up and I won't show how you are making stuff up.

I think it's best to just win the lottery. Mega millions is big enough tonight, so is Powerball.

Just when I start to think "this house is clean" the voices start yelling from the television again.
