Any "Latest & Greatest" about Delta?
How true...it's the only a/c since my GA days that I've had to wipe the sweat out of my eyes rolling down the runway!

Pardon the deviation from the usual ... Don't know if this ever happens to you ... but I was awestruck by someone I met today:
End of the Spear - Trailer - YouTube
End of the Spear Pure Aerial Montage - YouTube
Short Bio of Steve Saint: His father was a missionary pilot who tried to reach the Waodani Tribe in the headwaters of the Amazon. His Dad was murdered by the people he was trying to help, leaving his mother and family in Ecuador. After living for some time amongst the indigenous people he returned to the United States, became a successful businessman, a missionary pilot and started several technology companies that provide fairly advanced medical care (dentistry & optometry cheap and reliably) and practical know how. He also appears to have developed a practical flying car / STOL machine for third world use.* The Indian who killed his father now works with him and they go on the road teaching missionaries to do dental and optometry work. This facilitates their getting safely into areas that are 98% Muslim and where other missionaries have been killed.
When Hollywood wanted to make a movie of his life the missionary flying was deemed too dangerous by those with SAG cards. He did the "stunt" flying himself.
* He has non literate Indians performing root canals and prescriptive lenses. They wanted to fly his airplane, which was a non starter ... so he's developing an airplane they could safely operate ... a para-sail type thing. 3.9 seconds 0 to 60 ... I think I want one.

The fact that we're worried about his speaks volumes about our (lack of) confidence in DALPA's ability to hold the line--let alone tighten up--on scope.

From the "weekly update"
question for DALPA (since presumably you are tracking this): how does that compare to KLM/AF?
Our transatlantic capacity will be down 7.8% from 2010, but there is actually a good news story here as we had originally anticipated our capacity to be down as much as 13%
Very true. As for the Mahogany Row Road Trip, could be a contract offer to kick the can down the road until the industry calms down. Management every where is intensely focused on who's going to operate the 100 seaters. As you know, some regional carriers are already holding orders. Also, a change in Executive Leadership would not surprise me.
I'm all for the exact contract strategy you've laid out. Although, other MEC's and Representative bodies face the same issues we do. The risk with kicking the can down the road is that American, United or US Air, will give up more scope than they already have.

How does it compare to Comair too?
okay I was being a smarta$$.
Can we or can we not fly transatlantic flights OUTSIDE or the AF/KLM JV (like only as Delta Air Lines)?

Two additional questions if you don't mind:
1. Where in your opinion does the Delta MEC stand on scope recapture for this contract?
2. Given that another tie up (ie Delta and American) would likely cause further stagnation for Delta pilots... why, outside of "a healthy company = job security", would any Delta pilots not fight said tie up in the form of "keep Delta my Delta" and "show me advancement and the money"?
If those questions are unclear please let me know and I will try again? Thanks
PS- some might dissagree but I believe for a DAL/AA tie up to happen the company would need the pilots on board. If our pilot group was not on board and explained in a very public way how these mergers lead to overall job losses, etc., based on historical data, the current administration may not go along with it.

I don't know what the MEC opener on scope will be. I know that every rep I have spoken with understands its a top priority and I have not heard a single rep even imply we will give up anything in scope.
I have talked with a couple of people about another merger. It would be smoother for the company to have us working with them on a merger. They don't however require our permission and could easily do a hostile merger so to speak without our cooperation. I will send you a PM on more about one issue.
