That's not so much a case of the euro being strong as it is the dollar being weak. Turns out that profligate printing of paper money coupled with increasingly massive budget deficits weakens your currency. Who knew!

Yeah the only "new aircraft" rumors are centered around used vaporware stagnation jets that we may have to give a sport bidding relative seniority windfall to another pilot group and more large RJ's to get. Pair that with our obsession with "capacity dicipline" and the LCC fantasy order books and growth looks skeptical at best.

There is not one chance that Delta will pick up aircraft that require them to take pilots. Talk to you reps they just might have some news for you on this issue. Sometimes its good to have a working relationship with management.

Key word SOMETIMES. Hope sometime we will get a great contract. We could all have the cash to go sailing with our management friends.

Management does not want to deal with the intergration and culture issues either.

Please elaborate your explanation? Wouldn't they deal with that in any merger or buyout?

Absolutely. In fact, just before I got hired, there were guys who were in what was called the "Dual Pool", they were qualed on two airplanes, like DC9 F/O and DC 8 engineer, and they were on reserve, for Both! Scheds could/would call you out for either one! If you were getting close on landing currency, you called scheds and they'd get you on a trip to get your landings. I knew guys who were both 737 F/O's and 727 F/E's.

I flew 727 S/O with a "dual pool" slot as DC-9 F/O. They would only call you for a dual pool assignment if they ran out of reserves, because then they had to pay you the monthly guarantee on the higher equipment. That meant you were rarely used, and only semi-proficient -- a questionable situation if both pilots were "dual pools".
Eventually, they dropped the program in favor of "green slips" as a safer way to handle reserve shortages.

Actually they are both extremely weak and are falling compared to things they both buy, but that's another issue. At least if the Euro falls faster than the Dollar for a while Americans won't be as hard hit when they go and maybe we can keep demand from falling proportionate to their economy.
