Dunno if you guys have heard yet, but some interesting news coming out of the Compass Chief Pilot's Office the last few days....
1. Delta has confirmed 110 flowups in "early 1Q 2013," letters to be sent out later this summer. Obviously it's not final till my butt is sitting in class, but CPS is sure enough of it to be spooling up our own hiring in the fall. If the ratio from the last flow-up holds true, this implies at least 360 total newhires, and possibly more as 110 is the maximum that can flow in one year (1/4 of our total list). 2. We just signed an agreement with Delta to extend guaranteed interviews to all Compass pilots not covered by the flow (ie anyone hired after 8/2010). Applicants have to meet all DAL requirements and go through the entire Delta interview. |

Why would you have to hire 360 to replace 110?

NWA had a real "disaster waiting to happen" dual qualification in the contract prior to the 98 lockout. It was one of the things they struck over. I was hired post strike so I didn't experience it, but I've heard some pretty ridiculous stories about it. Maybe Carl or Newk can elaborate.

True story. My OE instructor on the -9 had spent the prior 10 months on the 727, was flying the -9 the month I had OE while studying his DC-10 books to attend Requal the next month, only to be back on the 727 the following month.

Sorry, my wording was a bit imprecise. 110 Compass flowups implies at least 360 total DELTA newhires. My reasoning is that Compass can only flow 20 per month, so 110 equals six months of hiring, and Delta hired a total of 60 per month the last two times around (two classes of 30). 6*60=360. More are possible because, as I mentioned, 110 is the maximum number that can flow from Compass in any 12-month period. On the other hand, it's always possible that they're *only* planning on taking Compass (and Mesaba) flowups. I think that's unlikely, though.

Jungle,
My intentions aren't to discredit your good news, as I hope the hiring starts and doesn't end for a long, long time. :) Just curious as to whether it was formal communication from your leadership? (i.e. letter, email, crew information file?) Or if the Chief Pilot told someone who told you? Thanks, GJ |

It was in C2K I think, that we finaly got that changed, so now you don't ever go back to your previous airplane, after you complete training, they convert you right away, if not before you've even started training. |
