Seems like a lot of wanking to me over something that isn't going to change. The price of admission into the airline industry is extremely high. A four year degree is just another ticket that you have to get punched along the way for your shot at "the show". It is what it is and it ain't gonna change any time soon.

Oh I would absolutely believe it. Good to hear they ask those questions. I have seen a few good dudes get wrecked in a divorce. Why is it so expensive? Because it is worth it.

Delta's interview process asks quite a few questions about family life. People who had a history of divorce were asked about it. Interestingly more than one part of the process independently and objectively pinged on the same issue.
I've no idea if Delta looks at a credit report, but I'd almost bet they do.
Who knows how they are going to run things this time. A lot has changed since the merger with NWA.
In the past they were very thorough. They want folks with a stable home that are going to show up to work and fly airplanes without distractions or drama. One aspect of the job is being 6,000 miles away from home in a place where you are a target. Some flights require 4 man crews. One guy gets into a mess and an airplane and 300 pax are stuck on the wrong side of the planet.

The majors can be very selective and they have every right to be. I am not by any means advocating using BK to get rid of unwanted debt, however, after 7 years there is little airlines can do to find out about it. I don't worry about it since I was on a pay as you go plan. This is a keep your nose clean kind of business.

That is true in a lot of cases. One exception I can think of is our corrupt insurance industry. In the past people with pre-existing conditions were denied insurance. They would then have to basically bankrupt themselves just to stay alive. Sometimes stiking it to the man is the only thing you have going for you. Worst case after 7 years no one can see it on your credit report. I would assume it is probably findable with a thorough court records search but I have no idea how thorough the background checks really are(never had to worry about it).

You could also apply for all those credit cards that junk up your mailbox all the time... take the cash advance, and move to Argentina.

For those using this thread for information:
Delta CEO Richard Andersen on Airline Industry: Video - Bloomberg
Mr. Anderson makes it pretty clear what it means to be a Delta employee and what he expects. The emphasis has not changed much since Delta's first logo which contained the words "Safety, Comfort, Speed." In modern vernacular this might be best stated "Safety, Customer Service, Efficiency." The more a candidate can demonstrate his ability to hit those points, the better their odds of convincing Delta to hire them.

I remember watching a documentary about the college bubble. The film crew went to some big name university and were looking at the plaques with names of students who graduated with a 4.0 GPA. In 1963 there was a plaque with about 20 names on it. By the time you got to 2009, there were about 10 plaques full of names just for that graduating class. The implied question is are students getting that much smarter, or have the standards been lowered to accept more admissions and thus more money for the school?

Airlines (and Air Lines) are guilty of and have no problem doing all of the above!

Finished a four day after a divert to Huntsville on the last leg... When we finished the rotation I did the customary, "hey, good flying with you again boss, see ya ..." The Captain did his best wide eyed Renée Zellweger impersonation from Jerry Maguire and said "stop, just Stop! Jeffrey, you had me at DIVERT"
