Heard from a CLCP a few days ago that Delta is planning to slow hiring from 900+/year (the last two years) to 700+/year in 2016.

If you're in the pool, keep your head up. It's going to be worth the wait. 2022 will be the year with largest group of mandatory pilot retirements in history.

Also, some other notes:

- E190 will be west coast to move some 717s back east
- 14 757s slated for retirement are going into mod/heavy mx, so we can expect them to stay for at least 5 more years
- Domestic 767s are slated to retire by 2018 (~17, I think...)

If this ends up being the case, I would wager about 75 a month until June and then about 40 a month thereafter. Hope it's more, hope it's more.

According to indoc they were approved for 700 through end of summer and this was before the 190 announcement was made. They anticipate it going up like the last 2 years, again, before the 190 announcement. Of course subject to change but I don't see how it couldn't go up now.

Only a hunch, but my guess is the company knew about the 190s long before any public announcement. I wouldn't assume that the 190s will mean additional hiring above the 700 mentioned during indoc. It's also equally as likely the left hand doesn't talk to the right, so who knows what influence purchasing decisions have on hiring this far out.

What they are approved for and what they actually end up hiring can be vastly different numbers. The usually lowball the approval so that it doesn't reflect poorly if you end up having to hire less. Last year they only approved 350 or so but hired many more than that.

So why would they throttle back on the hiring? Every chart/graph I've seen on mandatory retirements shows the retirement numbers increasing every year until it peaks in 2022 (?) or so. So why slow down hiring?

Also, talked with a 'call back in 6 months guy' at church today and he said he'd heard that Delta is going to go with 4 smaller indoc classes a month vs 2 larger classes a month. Anyone have any intel on that?

Default 27 May CJOs

My count for remaining 27 May CJOs is 9: 1 called/emailed for class and 1 going with Southwest. Sound accurate?

This sounds accurate -- The first 27 May CJO declined and posted it here, but haven't seen others from 27 May post to confirm their status. Since the 19Jan indoc invites were via email it is tough to know exactly how many are in the class. Right now, based on declined/deferred folks, it seems the class is 36 off the street including the second individual from 27 May (fairly confident that at least 8 total declined/deferred from among the 13/14/26/27 May CJOs).

There could be more from 27May--need them to chime in if they've been offered a spot in 19 Jan.
Cheers,
JD

According to the December "Flying Ops Update" we have only hired 744 this year. (258 civilian, 374 military, 112 military/civilian). That 258 civilian includes the compass/endeavor pilots. Very little non-military off the street.
