I doubt they will ever announce massive hiring but the hiring will continue at a steady rate for a long time. If Wall Street hears how many pilots we have to hire and the impending pilot shortage that could play a negative effect on stock prices. Announcements of hiring slowly shows stability in the company. It may slow also in the summer due to increase block hours and the need for instructors to fly the line but I don't think it will stop.

Im sure Wall Street knows. And if they dont know, then their analysts are deaf and blind. Kind of like the assumption that Boeing and Airbus have no clue that Richard Anderson likes to play them.
Open the floodgates already!!

By now this saying has been recycled, maybe a million times

They could "announce" plans to hire 11,000 pilots over the next 20 or so years and it wouldn't even move the needle because everyone knows its just replacements. AA pretty much did that recently, and no one in the investment world cared in the slightest. Wall St. doesn't know, comprehend or care how many pilots DL hires as long as DL needs those pilots to produce revenue and isn't publicly claiming to do it for a massive capacity binge.

Not to mention Wall St. didn't tank the stock when we announced several thousand FA's over a couple year period or ordered 100 737's (with options for more?) or anything else. A couple hundred pilots doesn't even compare to the standard deviation of our average fuel bill over the course of a year.

I'm wondering if any guys on the property can give their perspective on initial equipment bidding for someone who does not commute (ATL here). I've always heard the aim should be for the junior airplane to improve quality of life asap, but after having looked at the junior 76er schedules I'm thinking that wouldn't be half bad. I understand that there is a pretty low chance of having this option anyway, but with a good ss# I'd just like to ponder all my options prior to filling out the sheet.
Additionally, I'm trying to wrap my head around the effect of 2nd year pay being higher on the big equipment vs the increased possibility of picking up flying (whether white or green slip) if on the 88. Is this a realistic benefit of bidding the 88 that is not as readily available on the 76er?

The 767 fleet will be shrinking you surely would get displaced but one day and holding it again could take years as the fleet shrinks. Why not try it out? You'll get at least some international flights on TOE and that'll be fun.
I mean it's the 757 and 767, it's fun. Your schedule is going to suck but I just came off the 88 at year 6, my schedule imho sucked. It would've netted me Christmas day off in the midst of 9 days on and I'd been the last one to hold it as far as I could tell. And I could barely score a GS, there are 500+ FOs snatching that stuff up before it gets to a junior FO, unless at the end of the month you have a weekend off for some dumb reason and decide to fly a GS for a few hours of pay.
If you're in ATL, they're ALL senior, you'll fly weekends and holidays no matter what. Go for the ER and enjoy it while it lasts.
