You are correct in much of what you write. Train. Develop. Positive encouragement.

The foundation to those is details, details details and communication cubed. Making sure you focus on details and doing them at your highest level while communicating effectively and positively.

Who, right now, is focusing on details and communicating positively, unless one considers communicating positively as telling your team not to expect to go out and score many points.?

Our "coaching staff" is lacking and challenged currently.

Imagine what we could do with an effective communicator that has a vision (winning) and is detailed focused on getting the other coaches and team working to attain that vision.

It certainly was not industry leading in the scope section.
Contrast that with where we stand today and the numbers that will end up in front of the NMB and we have a vastly different situation.
My point is was not weather the 2001 contract did fully 'restore' us, but rather, WHERE IS OUR LEADERSHIP this time around?

Were they absent the day they lost their DB plans?

Were they absent when they lost 42% of their pay?

They won't even mention the word, "Restoration" this time around.

WHY NOT??

What was it Lee said, "The contracts are mature" and Richard said, "Labor risk has been taken off the table."

Where was the retraction from Lee, and the push back from the MEC?

Their silenced implies consent.

So I guess we'll be lucky if Richard is willing to trade more profit sharing for another cost neutral 4-8-3-3 contract.

Exactly. My point: Delta Air Lines already pays for a new-hire pilot's lodging- - at Endeavor, the regional carrier. So why not at mainline Delta, the big league carrier? It can't be about the costs.

Well maybe it is, since 9e has only hired about a dozen pilots this year.

Respectfully, the terms and conditions for other employees do not concern me. I am focused on the terms of employment for pilots, and I hope to continue working to improve them when I am able to finally make the move to Delta. Reading your posts, you seem to think the same way.

I'm not wrong. Tennessee was capable of winning that game. I was there. They played well. If a couple of things had gone differently, it could easily have been a different outcome. The Volunteers were playing to win. And it's not "youth sports" where everybody gets a trophy for participating.

Remember?

Where is that kind of leadership from our MEC today?

Where are the Family Awareness meetings?

Where is the accounting for our financial input to Save Delta?

The MEC acts like the biggest pay cut, and retirement losses in the history of the Profession, never happened!!

The MEC won't even mention how much money we "GAVE" to Delta in 2004, and how much of their "BIllions" in earnings today is DIRECTLY attributable to OUR CONCESSIONS!! The ONLY reason we gave up 42% of our pay and our DB plan was to...

SAVE DELTA!!

Well...It WORKED!

WE SAVED DELTA!!

So, WHEN are WE going to be PAID BACK for our sacrifices??

WHEN??
Great post, Timbo! Absolutely spot on.

I've coached football for 5 years now. I always tell the kids that they don't have to be the better team, they just have to be the best team in the stadium that day.

Do you tell them that every time you get down inside the 20yd. line you're going to kick a field goal vs. going for a TD?

That's what DALPA seems to be telling us.

Take the 3 easy points = 3% pay raises.

You aren't going to win many games on just field goals.

Exactly.

My daughter played soccer for Kennesaw State University. Her junior year, they won their conference, which put them in the NCAA Tournament. Luck of the draw, they got Florida State (ranked #2 in the nation at the time) for the first round of the tournament in Tallahassee. Kennesaw State was an excellent team for a conference like the Atlantic Sun, and they could hold their own against many of the big conference teams. But against #2 in the nation? Most people would have said they didn't have a prayer of winning... and they would have probably been right.

As it turned out, they did lose pretty big to Florida State. I was at that game. And what I saw was a Kennesaw State team that was determined to win. They weren't just playing to see if they could have a few positive things happen. They hadn't predecided they were going to lose the game. They prepared for that game to win it. They played the game with every intention of winning. I can guarantee you they wouldn't have done as well as they did if they had gone into the game with the mindset that there was no way they could win.

My daughter (center midfielder) was up against FSU's center midfielder who was the leading scorer on their team and one of the top women's soccer players in the country. There was once or twice during the game that this girl put a fancy move on my daughter and got around her. But when it was all said and done, FSU's star player didn't score a goal and wasn't much of a factor in the game. As you can imagine, I was extremely proud of my daughter. I can guarantee you my daughter was playing to win!

I can't believe we're even discussing this. How did some of these guys ever even get to this level in our profession with the self defeating mentality they display here?

We always go for the TD. Our kicker sucks!
